For those of you in the mood, RationalWiki has a fun article about Anonymous (collective). |
Anonymous are "Hackers on Steroids". It is an "Internet Hate Machine". It is without remorse or inhibitions, destroying all that opposes it. We've heard it also lieks mudkips. Anonymous feeds on lulz, pron and seven different proxies. Anonymous is not your friend.
Anonymous does not forgive.
Anonymous does not forget.
Anonymous is to be expected.

Scientology's stance on Anonymous
The Church of Scientology has given written and spoken statements accusing Anonymous of being rapists, pedophiles, drug addicts, terrorists, Germans, paid off by the German government, paid off by the pharmaceutical industry, Nazis, Communists, religious bigots, pirates, controlled by psychiatrists from the extraterrestrial Marcab Confederacy, and, possibly the worst accusation of all, a bunch of bored teenagers.
But Srsly...
Anonymous is the default "handle" when posting on 4Chan, which is where the name originates, and many of its achievements, for better or for worse, are attributed to the Anons that frequent the random board, known as /b/. Though famed for its DDoS assault on $cientology websites, and then even more for the protests, Anonymous are infamous, especially among its victims, for their multiple raids. Targets in raids are generally picked for the amount of lulz that can be generated by the raid process. Targets can be individuals, particularly Myspace or Youtube users, groups like furries and radical feminists, organisations like $cientology, and online interactive communities like Second Life and Habbo Hotel.
Methods vary depending on the target, or lulz potential, though DDoS via botnetting is the weapon of choice for many a seasoned Anon. For example, in retaliation to a radical feminist's (BitingBeaver) blog posting about her teenage son's fondness of pornography, Anons the world over took up arms and started what became known as "The Search For /b/randon", with the intention of locating and delivering to him large quantities of delicious porn. Websites were brought down one-by-one as other radical feminists defended BB (or denied the blog in question existed), and though /b/randon was never found, it was undeniable that the Internet belongs to Anonymous.
Anonymous is divided into several groups:
Oldfags
The so-called old-fags are those who claim to be part of Anonymous since its inception. Of course, it's impossible to tell who's an oldfag, with the exception of incidents that can be described as "epic wins" (typically, these would be raids), which invariably are credited as the work of oldfags. Additionally, oldfags tend to look down upon the Scientology protests (though not the DDoS raids on the websites) for a number of reasons, including but not limited to: bringing much-unneeded attention to /b/ and eternally flooding it in what are referred to as newfags, who misunderstand anonymous and the true meaning of lulz.
Newfags
Also known as "the cancer killing /b/", newfags are primarily painted as kids who use memes without knowing the meaning or being there when they began. An irritating characteristic of the newfag is, upon learning of anons many victorious raids, to make a personal army request. These are typically ignored. A typical newfag mistake among Anonymous is following the advice of oldfags.
moralfags
Despised by many among the rank and file of anonymous for growing a conscience, and moreso for creating the friendly-neighborhood-anon image, moralfags are the ones who tried to stalk that lady who cooked the kitten in the oven a few months ago, the same people who tried to DDoS 711chan after they posted the video of the kitten being held underwater.
Btard
Anyone who posts regularly on /b/ or spends more than 2 hours a day on /b/ is affectionately called a btard, whether by itself or other btards.
The result
Anonymous made the news and certainly got up the asses of senior scientologists, however, whether or not the people who make up Anonymous will bring down the Cult Church is still to be seen.
Anonymous According To Fox News
Rumoured to have been sold out to Fox News by Goronchev (known amongst anons and EDiots as Smugfag), Anonymous was brought to the attention of many American sheep when the nations largest lie machine aired a bit on the so-called "Hackers on Steroids", revealing that closing your curtains and buying a dog are the only known tried and true methods of preventing Anons from finding your myspace password and using it to lock you out and post gay porn on your profile.
Rules 1 & 2
- Do not talk about /b/
- Do NOT talk about /b/
The above rules are mostly accepted to apply to raids.
