Cro-magnon Man is the name traditionally given by anthropologists to the first anatomically modern human inhabitants of Europe. In the popular imagination, they are often grouped with Neanderthal Man as "cavemen"; however, while Cro-magnon Man is believed to have left descendants among the earliest populations of Europe (perhaps including the Basques and some of the natives of the British Isles), Neandertals have left no identifiable genetic traces.
