In its broadest definition, an extraterrestrial (also referred to as "ET") is anything not "of the planet Earth". Many people would argue that the posibility is remote that we are the only form of life in the universe and that some form of life is likely to exist on other planets.

Intelligent aliens

The narrower and more well-known definition is of an intelligent alien life-form. The most common assumption of this narrow definition is that of a sentient being, often with superior technology. If so, one can only hope that they have found a way to counteract the conservative constant.

Such extraterrestrials currently exist only as a hypothetical, with no conclusive proof of their existence yet found. Similar to belief in God, this lack of evidence does nothing to stop people from crediting extraterrestrials with a wide array of accomplishments and interference here on Earth, such as building the Egyptian pyramids and kidnapping anyone who ever had a really long night of forgotten debauchery.

Put another way, most accounts of interactions with ETs are primary source material (highly sought after as a resource if/when an event happened centuries ago, but to be avoided as much as possible if they are about recent occurrences), and thus considered anecdotal, the anathema of all proper thinking beings, who are not inclined to believe what is seen unless it can be seen whenever and whereever it is looked for. Since ETs seem reluctant to be drawn into scientific laboratories or to partake in repeatable experiments, they may not exist at all. Darn. Or maybe they just don't live nearby? Or maybe they just don't like us enough to talk to us face to face face to tentacle.

Species

The Aliens that have supposedly come to earth have appeared in many different forms. This indicates that either Earth is really interesting to many, many varieties of aliens or that they are made up.[1] Often, there is a good correllation between the culture that has observed alien life and what it looks like. The "Grey" species is undoubtedly the most common seen and the most commonly depicted in fiction and reported. Similarly, the "flying saucer" shape only became prevailent after UFOs were reported as being round. Some early close encounters of modern times reported dart shaped rather than saurcer shaped UFOs.

Either way, "respected" Ufologists have identified several different species of alien. They include:

  • the Greys: Most famous types of aliens in popular culture, they are short but have really big heads, no hair, grey skin, either very small or no mouth and nose, and really big eyes. They are the most commonly reported aliens in North America. They seem to have an agenda, but the grey agenda should not be confused with the gay agenda (although both seem to involve anal probing).
  • the Nordics: They look like a Nazi's wet dream, although taller and not into Hitler. For some reason they like to abduct Europeans more than Americans.
  • the Reptilians: Also known as the Gorn, they look like sentient dinosaurs. David Icke and his followers actually believe that Queen Elizabeth, the Bush family, and nearly every other major politician is actually a reptilian in disguise. Seems reasonable enough...
  • the Designers: Also known as the Elohim (singular Elohah), they look exactly like a small version of a Japanese person because, according to Raelians, they made us in their image. They also gave messages to different populations through religious figures like Buddha, Jesus, Mohammed and Moses.
