Moonbat is a Snarl Word used by conservatives to describe moderates and leftists, it is meant to be derogatory in the same way as "fundie" or "redneck".

How could you hate anything so cute?

Depending on the accuser, the following groups of people are called moonbats:

  • Atheists
  • Agnostics
  • Neopagans
  • Bisexuals
  • Homosexuals
  • Feminists
  • Socialists
  • People who don't believe in Young Earth Creationism or Intelligent Design
  • People who are not evangelical Christians
  • People who acknowledge the existence of Global Warming
  • People who do not support the Iraq war
  • People who do not wish to invade Iran
  • People who believe gays should have equal rights
  • People who do not believe in Geocentrism
  • People who do not want to live in a theocracy
  • People who get laid before marriage
  • People who criticize Ann Coulter, Jerry Falwell or Pat Robertson
  • People who want their children to be vaccinated against deadly diseases
  • People who believe the world is round
  • People who question the American government in any way
  • People who want to see affordable healthcare for the poor
  • People who believe extraterrestrial life to be plausible
  • Anyone who is politically to the left of the accuser


Special Note: In the last few years, however, the term "moonbat" has come to refer to those individuals who subscribe to conspiracy theories regardless of political affiliation. Most likely, the term has come to such an understanding due to the "screeching" such people do about a given conspiracy theory while unable to intelligently convey a legitimate reason for accepting it as fact.
