A prophet a religious term for a person who claims he has recieved a message of a God. People who are believing those people are calling those "messages" revelations. The religions which are based on those "revelations" are called revelation religions.
Examples of those prophets are Moses, Paul, Muhammed, David Koresh and Lou de Palingboer. Those prophets alse claim that other prophets have existed like Adam, Noah, and Abraham.
Roughly 8000 people have claimed to be a prophet, that we know of.
