Transitioning to MediaWiki 1.23
RW is currently running MediaWiki 1.19, and its end-of-life is May 2015. As it's April now, it's about time to start a transition to 1.23, the next long-term support version. At the very least, installing 23 to rationalbeta to see what breaks would give people time to spot and fix resign to any problems during the next month or so.--ZooGuard (talk) 10:03, 5 April 2015 (UTC)
- Emailed Trent about this (amongst many things) a few days ago, waiting on response - David Gerard (talk) 23:13, 5 April 2015 (UTC)
Unreferenced articles
Is there a way of finding unreferenced articles? Other than trawling through every page, that is. Bicyclewheel

- Category:Articles with unsourced statements? Alternatively, the auto-generated list of transclusions of Template:Fact, though the few cases when it's used ironically will make it contain more pages than the category.--ZooGuard (talk) 10:44, 6 April 2015 (UTC)
- but that's only for disputed statements, not unreferenced articles as a whole. Bicyclewheel

- Well... I can see maybe using Special:Export in conjunction with Special:AllPages to export the files, build an xml crawler and look for articles lacking <ref>. But that would take a while. Alternatively, we could add a hidden category to <references />, but that might be a bad idea. ikanreed You probably didn't deserve that 13:42, 6 April 2015 (UTC)
- what you'd need is a way of adding all articles tocategory:Unreferenced articles, and get <references><nowiki> and <nowiki>{{reflist}} to suppress such inclusion. And have it only in mainspace. Hmmm. Bicyclewheel

- JW, why would you want to find articles w/o references? ʇυzzγɔɒтqoтɒтo (talk/stalk) 14:25, 6 April 2015 (UTC)
- Because unsourced/unreffed articles are hotbeds for wrong information and also libel, as well as just looking unprofessional? --Miekal 15:40, 6 April 2015 (UTC)
- Maybe, but articles with 0 references also tend to be stubs that nobody will ever read. Bicycle, it's probably more efficient to try and clear out the articles with unsourced statements before doing this. Sir ℱ℧ℤℤϒℂᗩℑᑭƠℑᗩℑƠ (talk/stalk) 16:10, 6 April 2015 (UTC)

I might be able to make a bot that will be able to get the articles in a given category and count the references in each one with relatively little effort.--ZooGuard (talk) 17:29, 7 April 2015 (UTC)
Is Pibot back?
And who is in charge of it? (Look at Special:Contributions/Pibot - I dropped out for a few days and it appeared. It may have been active longer than that, with ZooBot not leaving any work for it.)--ZooGuard (talk) 16:48, 14 April 2015 (UTC)
Something useful we used to have but don't have anymore. Can we get it back some how?
We used to have something where we had an "edit" button for editing the lead section of the article itself. Would it be possible to get that back? It was most helpful on highly edited pages to avoid edit conflicts. Pretty please? I'll even make a David Gerard-style martini and post a picture of it if needed. John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt (talk) 00:49, 25 April 2015 (UTC)
- Add §ion=0 to the end of the URL. Alternatively steal the "Add an [edit] link for the lead section of a page" from Wikipedia.—Ryūlóng (琉竜) 00:52, 25 April 2015 (UTC)
- We do have it. It's a gadget. The gadgets only work 25% of the time. 32℉uzzy, 0℃atPotato (talk/stalk) 02:57, 25 April 2015 (UTC)
