Common.css
Has anything changed in the common.css file? Either the fallbacks for the gradients have changed or something has gone seriously wrong.

- Browser-related? Looks fine for me in Ubuntu/Chromium. Theory of Practice "the standards of the site are ultimately an expression of the community makeup, and not a set of rules or policies." 20:49, 22 July 2012 (UTC)
- Probably. I doubt it specifies o-linear-gradient, but previously it just fell back to white. No version update that I'm aware of, this seems related to the site change.

- Was it that bad with IE before, or was it just broken in the update somehow? -- Nx / talk 12:50, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
- This is in Opera, as there was no vendor prefix for the gradient. Previously it just fell back to a white background and coloured border but after the update it didn't for some utterly bizarre reason.
theist 12:53, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
- But it did exactly the same in IE (which, although I don't check it on IE regularly, looked normal last time I loaded it in IE9), which is why I played with it a bit more to get the fallbacks in place. Unless there was something up between the differences in adding gradients to background or background-image (I've converted them all to the former) I can't figure out what suddenly went wrong.
moral 12:56, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
- (ec) I briefly looked at the IE version, and saw it was similarly horrible before you fixed it, but I'm pretty sure I made a colored border/white bg fallback back when I made this. Probably what borked it was the changes to wikitable css (mediawikiwiki:MediaWiki 1.19#Heads-up for MediaWiki administrators) -- Nx / talk 12:58, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
- It looks like tables on the wiki don't get a white background any more automatically. This might bork some other stuff on the wiki. -- Nx / talk 13:00, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
- I remember you changing something to do with that but have forgotten what. I think it was fairly obscure, though, I'll keep an eye out for what it is and see if there's a conflict. Changes in the wikitable formatting might explain it.
gnostic 13:02, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
- May have found one. The gadget that puts a box around individual WIGO entries is now transparent, rather than yellow. 13:06, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
- Seems to be a loading order issue. Common.css has a ".vote {background:transparent;}" that's no longer needed (it used to be because of the forced white bg on all tables), and it's now loading after the gadget's css for some reason, overriding it. -- Nx / talk 13:09, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
- Fixed that one.

Vector javascript of some sort
I didn't catch the filename, but there's some Vector (theme) related JavaScript that's making my Firefox (on a somewhat aging netbook) go batshit. It soaks up 100% CPU for a fair fraction of a minute before giving me the page. I shall try to catch it in more detail ... but anyone else seeing this? - David Gerard (talk) 20:44, 24 July 2012 (UTC)

- Yeowwwch! I've seen prettier Wix sites. But MediaWiki:Vector.js is empty, and MediaWiki:Common.js doesn't have anything out of the normal in it. So I can't see where you're getting that from.
narchist 10:13, 25 July 2012 (UTC)
- That's ResourceLoader, which automagically minifies, combines and caches css and js files. It's loading jquery. If you add a debug=true to the query string of any page on the wiki (index.php?title=Whatever&debug=true), it skips the minifying and combining. -- Nx / talk 10:36, 25 July 2012 (UTC)
- It's not the guacamole-like rendering, it's the code itself doing something pathological - that Wikipedia doesn't do and my work intranet installation of 1.19 doesn't do - David Gerard (talk) 12:49, 25 July 2012 (UTC)

- Aha - it's only happening on my watchlist, which is the page I do most of my RW from - but I basically don't use my watchlist on Wikipedia or the work wiki. Just tried on Wikipedia (which is now at 1.20wmf7, not 1.19.1) and the watchlist doesn't do that to me. - David Gerard (talk) 19:35, 26 July 2012 (UTC)

My sig keeps getting forcibly fucked up
Every time I add a custom sig into my preferences, MediaWiki keeps adding the prefix "SUBST:" to the signature after I save, thus completely fucking up my attempts at having a custom sig and posting everything in the sig template instead. What's up with that? User:Reckless Noise Symphony 05:04, 29 July 2012 (UTC)

- In preferences, my sig reads {{subst:expand:User:Armondikov/sig}} (with "sign exactly as shown" ticked).
- Where do I type in the "subst:expand"? My wiki-fu is weak. --PsyGremlinSiarad! 14:11, 7 August 2012 (UTC)
- It will keep sticking SUBST in there until Trent fixes it. Your options now are: use subst:expand with the parser syntax to get a substed random sig like Armondikov's, ditch the random thing, or go back to using two templates. -- Nx / talk 14:04, 7 August 2012 (UTC)
- Now it's posting the whole new line: <font face="Wild Words">[[User:Psygremlin|<b><font color="blue">PsyGremlin</font></b>]]{{#choose:Speak!|Praat!|Khuluma!|Поговорите!|話しなさい|말하십시오|Siarad!|Hable!|講話|Parlez!|Fale!|Sprich!|Zungumza!|Tal!|Prata!|Snakk!|Tala!|Sermā!|Parla!|Runāt!}}</font> and still sticking SUBST in under the preferences. --PsyGremlinPraat! 12:45, 7 August 2012 (UTC)
- Have you tried converting it to the parser rather than the choose tag? Eg: {{#choose:theist|postate|pathetic|gnostic|moral|bomination|d hominem|narchist|sshole}}
- Tried that and my sig shows PsyGremlin{{subst:expand User:Psygremlin/sig|}} - I'll go back to plain until it's working again. Thanks for the help. --Psygremlin (talk) 14:21, 7 August 2012 (UTC)
- Is there a reason you have a pipe at the end of "sig" there?

- Ah, that seems to have fixed it. Thank you - give yourself the rest of the day off. Tell them I said so. --PsyGremlinFale! 15:03, 7 August 2012 (UTC)
- Already taken most of the day off. It's been grand.

Vandal Bin
The link to the page that lets us bin folks seems to be busted; gives an error message. Theory of Practice "Trampoline" is an Olympic sport now? 15:41, 10 August 2012 (UTC)

Holydaze
Why is it now sitting on the left, despite an align:center command in Template:Holydaze/0820? I checked a few others at random, & many of them are doing the same. ΨΣΔξΣΓΩΙÐ

- It will probably be due to the update. The way wikitables were handled changed slightly as it still works in divs, though:

- Either way, it should be done through styling as that's the standard, for whatever reason.

. If that looks like math, then this problem has been fixed.
