Revision as of 07:51, 17 April 2010

YouTube has, among its gazillions of posters, a small but rapidly growing set of creationists, pseudoscientists and other cranks. Luckily there are also quite a few "good guys", who refute these cranks and generally have a fun time. It would be remiss of us not to list these people and their individual takes on reality...

Contents

Creationists

  • cseministry [1] - Kent Hovind's ministry (now run by his less than stellar son Eric).
  • GEERUP [2] - Also an alternative medicator, and heir to the VenomFangX channel.
  • jezuzfreek777 [3] - Has said some embarrassing things, especially relating to racism.
  • NephilimFree [4] - a YEC Christian who likes the sound of his own voice, and has posted a large number of videos, all featuring his talking head to camera. He always wears headphones, either for that "finger on the pulse" look, or for going "lalala I can't hear you"? "I hope you find something interesting here", he says. His general creepiness (and his comments about stoning children) have given him the informal nickname of "PedophilimFail."
  • VenomFangX [5] - Barely sane young man who retired from YouTube, apparently when his mom and dad found out what he was doing with his fundie videos, and his illegal and morally dubious charity drive. He came back shortly before he filed wrongful DMCAs against the lawyer who represented the people who forced him into an apology to the Internet for filing wrongful DMCAs in the first place. He has since had to entirely close his account to avoid a lawsuit.
  • Christianu2uber - Less said about this guy, the better. But if there was ever an argument against fundies having children, this would be it. Also evidence that the Internet Hate Machine really is an uncaring bastard. His account is now closed.[1]
  • TheAmazingBeliever [6] - Bible Belt evangelist teenager (read: young redneck) who plans on majoring in Mass Comm and minoring in Religious Studies. Touches on politics sometimes, fails always.
  • aaronk1994 [7] - Young YEC who appeared on The Atheist Experience. Was soundly defeated, but still claimed to have won. See the Atheist Experience's response to the claim of victory.[2]

Alternative medicators

Conspiracy theorists

  • HowTheWorldWorks [8] - Rabid libertarian, has a bad habit of being monotone when reading from a script (usually when he's staring into the camera). Has been criticized for not only blocking people who have different opinions, but he "allegedly" used sock accounts. Has stated his main goal on YouTube is profit.

"Good" guys

As was noted during Thunderf00t's interview with Richard Dawkins, the number of scientists, "evolutionists" and anti-creationists is steadily growing; and while creationists get new guys like GEERUP - who is probably mentally challenged - the evolution "side" gets some very intelligent and competent people. And you thought the RW Cabal[3] was bad...

  • AronRa [9] - Rabid atheist and student of paleontology.
  • Thunderf00t [10] - Rabid free-speech defender and scientist.
  • Pat Condell [11] - One of the most influential Youtube atheists. His videos, while serious in nature, are peppered with bits of humor, unsurprising, since he is a comedian by trade.
  • LiberalViewer [12] - Rabid Liberal, arguably one of the most popular users in politics. Known best for covering Fox News bias (which is featured as a playlist on his channel). Real name is Allen and is an ACLU lawyer.
  • ZOMGitsCriss [13] - Rabid Romanian. (She's pretty hot actually.)
  • ExtantDodo [14] - Long vids debunking everything Kent Hovind ever dared utter.
  • DonExodus2 [15] - An evolutionary biologist. His videos are usually geared towards showing the evidence for evolution. Has said in the past he was a Christian, although in more recent videos has claimed agnosticism.
  • potholer54 [16] and - Australian journalist with a degree in geology. His "The Universe Made Easy" series is (or rather, was, since it is now finished) very popular, and is usually highly regarded.
    • potholer54debunks [17] - potholer54's channel dedicated to debunking pseudoscience.
  • philhellenes [18] - Makes excellent videos pertaining to science and religion. His video, "Why Don't Scientists Fear Hell?" is recommended.
  • Mr. Deity [19] - Comedy series based on the domestic life of God.
  • Arizona Superman [20] - Well spoken, polite, and a refreshingly direct questioner of some of the possible contradictions within Christianity.
  • ShaneDK [21] - While he is a libertarian, he isn't a nutter like HowTheWorldWorks. He has a superb video series called "Bogosity" that debunks various pseudosciences and other nonsense.
  • bubbamickmac [22] - nickname of King Mike. student user studying Biology and Philosophy, known for "Welcome to Jesusland" series which debunks creationism and defends secular ideas in the constitution. Also has criticized Howtheworldworks in a number of videos, and has made other videos on philosophy and religion.
  • cdk007 [23] - well-known youtube scientist, best known for making pro-evolution videos.
  • eimajuno [24] - Original channel killed by flagging (the channel had several hundred videos). Uploads quite regularly, and covers multiple topics, but mostly sticking to analyses of other users' videos. Has a series called "Dipshit of the Week."
  • Edward Current [25]- An atheist playing a Stephen Colbert type parody of fundie Christians.
  • Richard "The Dick" Coughlan [26] - a British atheist, sceptical of religion and the general right-wing and has refuted numerous videos of these nature in most humorous response. Also a stand-up comedian.
  • FundieVideoHell [27] - Quite possibly the largest collection of fundamentalist videos ever assembled in one place. Run by RationalWiki user Android (Youtube user AndroidAR).
  • FactVsReligion [28] - A female vegetarian and atheist from British Columbia who talks with a crazy accent that seems to be a mix of British and Canadian. Works as a filmmaker outside of YouTube as well.
  • Laci Green [29] [30] - Atheist activist, humorist, and general all-around rationalist ranter on gender relations and religious matters.

Jerks

  • TheAmazingAtheist [31] - a guy who would fall into the above "'Good' Guy" category, except for the fact that he's a complete jerk who believes that being even moderately courteous or polite to any religious person is a sign of weakness.
