The Pledge of Allegiance is a form of brainwashing done in US schools. Pledging requires one to salute the US flag, and recite "I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands: one Nation under God, indivisible, With Liberty and Justice for all." Which basically claims that the US is better than the rest of the world. While a nice idea for uniting people, no other free democracy does anything similar to this in schools.[1]
It should be recited by standing at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart. When not in uniform, men should remove any non-religious headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart. People in uniform should remain silent, face the flag, and render the military salute.
Criticism of requiring or promoting the Pledge
Many public schools encourage every pupil to to recite the Pledge. Various groups of other or no religion have challenged this rule, particularly the "under God" clause. The most notable protest of the Pledge was by the Jehovah's Witnesses, who refuse to swear to anything less than God.
Pledge ban
The use of the phrase "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance when used in public schools was deemed unconstitutional by a circuit court for violating the United States' Constitution's establishment clause.[2] However, the law has not yet been enforced.
