Russian section of the porject

Jump to: navigation, search

Dear Mr. ArmondikoV!

I am writing to ask you about possibilities of creating the Russian section of project "RationalWiki". The necessity of this action is caused by the fact, that there is not similar wiki-based resources in Russian language, but, for example, there is a Russian sector of the "Creation Wiki" (look http://creationwiki.org/ru/%D0%97%D0%B0%D0%B3%D0%BB%D0%B0%D0%B2%D0%BD%D0%B0%D1%8F_%D1%81%D1%82%D1%80%D0%B0%D0%BD%D0%B8%D1%86%D0%B0). This new section would review pseudo-scientific claims and would give "mainstream" consideration of these claims. Particularly, it would be given some attention to consideration claims of the Russian section of "Creation wiki" and other creationists claims.

Who do I contact about this? Thank you!

Yours sincerely.--Bertran (talk) 20:15, 1 January 2011 (UTC)

It would be best to start here. We have one article translated into French and another in Spannish. It's unlikely that we will be having any dedicated subdomains for languages any time soon, however.

Thank you! I will start there. So, another question. Can I use the material in English to translate it into Russian? I hope, that Russian sector will be sufficiently significant in the future, so I don't want to start a basic pages from beginning (but it is better to use English version).--Bertran (talk) 20:27, 1 January 2011 (UTC)

I would say most definitely to translate what has already been written in English. My only concern is that we monoglots can no longer verify any changes that are made under the RW name.

That's always going to be the problem. This is why we should resist outright subdomains for different languages for now. It would be best to think of the translations as useful essays, rather than articles in the usual sense.

I hope that after creating of Russian version this project will grow in popularity among Russian-speaking Internet users. So, there will be new members in Russian section, who can verify the articles in it. Also, there is a problem, that my English is not the same as I would like. But it is well known that translation into native language is easier than speaking on foreign language.

So, I will get to work.

Undoubtedly your English is better than my Russian, which extends to an hour long lesson (7 years ago) in the Russian alphabet so that I could pronounce the names of Moscow metro stations without making a prat of myself.

All is not as good as it seems. I have widely used Google translator to understand you and to speak with you.

I have great respect for all the non-native English speakers on RW. They cope admirably and often at a better level than those who can only (just) speak English.

"Whoa, lady, I only speak two languages, English and bad English."

We all make mistakes but your bad is better than the good of many others.
