Why did he have to qualify it at all?
Ok, one last comment (lastwordism). Abortion is going nowhere. I write a lot about it, and it may get harder to come by, more expensive, etc. But it makes too much money for it ever to disappear. (cyincal of me, but when the line is really drawn, the money will matter).
I told you that to me, this isn't about abortion, but about how these men view women, cause while abortion isn't really going to every go anywhere, we actually can change rape. It's in our grasp to actually address it. Hundreds of my "friends" on facebook posted this, and not one of them posted about the abortion issue. The posted about the rape issue. Cause that is a very real world, real attitude of many men we see every day in our lives, in our local police, in local and national politics.
To dismiss it as "he was looking for a way out in the rape exception" issue, is to miss exactly why it angered so many women.
i should go eat chocolate.
I appreciate the perspective, actually, so no need to apologise for last-wordism.
I'm certainly not "dismissing" what he's said. Choosing not to overblow one single poorly chosen word or perhaps try to figure out a reason isn't "dismissing".
My problem is, and always has been, that it seems like blogs and comments are putting words into his mouth. That's basically a straw man fallacy and I hold everyone equally to the same standard over things like that. It's an off-the-cuff and throwaway remark that people have assumed means something without actually thinking what it could mean.
The simple fact is that this specifically highlights what is wrong with Paul's opinion on the subject. He can't enforce his own exception here without creating a whole heap of shit to deal with.
