In the past few months you have demonstrated a strong dislike of me, and your explanations of it are based on a false premise: that I am some sort of unrepentant bigot. Evidence points to the contrary. What Nutty Roux says about me is all lies. I have proven myself to you and to the community multiple times, and yet after each time his lies prevail. Cease listening to him.
I grate at you. I get that. I often have that effect on people, in real life and on the internet. Honestly, I think it might be stronger than me. But I don't interact with you enough that you should be bothered by it. Brx is best in small doses (not so small as homeopathy, but small like several glasses of fine wine or a few cuts of strong cheese).
I respect you. I listen to your opinions. Several instances I have agreed to change my language or behavior based on what you told me. As an example, I do believe it was you who told me not to use the word "tranny" and who told me why. And I listened, because I decided that you were right. And I haven't used it since.
Let there not be a cycle of you believing the propaganda and accepting my apologies. Stop believing the lies about me altogether. Let our relations stay respectfully neutral or better.
I don't have it in for you. As I said in the Coop, I am always appreciative of your attempts at self-reform, and I'm very glad I could help.
I'm not entirely sure of what's lies and what's the truth with regard to what people say about you. I tend to believe my own eyes more than the likes of Nutty Roux. What I do know is that you have grated against a large number of community members I hold in great esteem, and that is mostly your own fault. I don't think you deserve to be banned or desysopped, though. We can be respectfully neutral or better.
The reason for my post here was your reply in this thread.
Let bygones be bygones?
Brx, I don't like you very much, and I think I've made that clear. That being said, I stick up for you because I refuse to let this community become a place where an authoritarian cronyism rules, and the more friends you have, the more powerful you are. When you get abused and the abusers walk away with impunity, that's one thing: the abuse can be quickly reversed till the next time. But when that abuse is community-approved, oligarchy has its foot in the door. Institutional anarchy is a patently absurd concept, isn't it? What we call the glorious mobocracy is just a gerontocratic, cronyist oligarchy where those with the most friends rule absolutely over those with the least friends. Rules don't make us authoritarian, our actions make us authoritarian. This is a difficult point for the wannabe oligarchs and their myopic lackeys to want to understand.
Nutty Roux and a few other editors seem to be having an inordinate amount of trouble discerning the difference between "EDiot" humor and racism, which is unfortunate, since there are many other hobby-horses they could be riding as far as Brxbrx is concerned; for example, his calling WaitingforGodot a "bloated, deluded hag" for mounting a mission challenge to one of his articles.
I'd submit that they are even being counter productive when it comes to the goal of getting rid of Brx.
