THATS what I'd like to see a scan of. it feels so different than just orgasm. but... you know.... "no comment".

    What's a subspace orgasm?  :)

whether because of pain, or drugs, or deep meditation, there is a place that the mind slips into that is often a launching point for mysticism. Some people have compared the feelings that a sub in a BDSM scene recieves creates that same "space".

"Some people" eh? Don't tell me you're still hiding in the closet when we could be turning this place into PervWiki. :P

If you'll allow me to speculate for a moment, I think it's all related to what the Buddhists call anatman (or the "not self"), the now-trendy psych concept of flow, or, in plainer English, what drugged-up hippies call ego death. Having tried all those experiences myself, they are all different of course, but similar in the way they are based on the destruction of the "self."

The thing about mystical experinces (induced pain, ehm, included) is that no matter what religion the person stems from, or what they did to get into that state, they all describe the same damn thing; "near death" shares that experience as well. "ego death" sure describes what I've felt on peyote, or on "vision quest" (i wish i could say anything less "new agey" there...). I've never actually been in real subspace. the pain part is not enough my thing to get there. but yes, i'm my own little (or big, as the physical case is) perv.  ;-)

Yeah, "religious" experiences are at base the same cognitive mechanism filtered through culturally relevant beliefs, which is the case for many other things as well. In fact, people attempting to graft their religious beliefs onto BDSM is not uncommon (it's just like "real life," but pervier!), in my experience, though when it happens it tends to be some New Age nonsense, pop Eastern mysticism (Jebus, Yahweh, and Allah frown upon kinky sex), or "sacred feminine"/goddess-worship guff (I blame it on the female supremacists). Which is why I'm grateful that my mistress is an even bigger atheist thumper than me -- nothing ruins kinky sex faster than quantum woo! (Now there's a sentence that should never have to be typed.)

Anyway, "subspace" and BDSM in general is not necessarily related to pain, that's just a misconception based on pop culture stereotypes. I'm actually fairly boring for a pervert -- D/s is the only essential element of it for me, though pain can amplify it, but it's not the central point for me most of the time. Some people need pain -- the technical term for them is "pain sluts." If you're serious about trying it, though, thumb through the RW-Recommended Wipipedia and see what sounds like fun. I wasted quite a bit of time not recognizing my own kinky proclivities because I thought BDSM was just about people in gimp masks beating the shit out of each other. I hope that image changes as it becomes more acceptable, but it's still pretty rare to see a depiction of BDSM in the media that's not totally cartoony.

I just wrote a long thing, and then erased it, cause "delete" doesn't do much at a wiki, so your transgressions and admittances are there forever.

let's just say, I've done my research. at 40, i know what i like.  ;-) (i used to type with only i's if that says anything, hehe.

Speaking of cartoony - you ever see Exit to Eden, the movie. now THAT was a laugh and a half. i mean, the camp just sold it.

                Pink mowse.pngGodotMoi j'dis, laisse beton04:21, 16 November 2011

Yeah, well, my transgressions are already littered across the wiki anyway, I'm not too worried about it.

No, I haven't seen Exit to Eden. Any redeeming features or is it just plain god-awful enough to be hilarious?

                  Nebuchadnezzar (talk)04:41, 16 November 2011

It's soooo bad, adn sooooo campy (though i don't think it was supposed to be, not really sure), that it's hysterical. some night, it would be a great background tv to your cooking, or studying or rational wiking.
