Me
Hey, I'm Sam and welcome to my user page. This fall I'll be a college freshman. I'm undeclared and hope to be on the NCAA Division I cross country and track teams at my university.
I've been blocked a total of 7 times at Conservapedia.
I'm also at Wikipedia as Socal212.
I have an irrational fear of .
Politics
I'm pretty liberal. I'm for universal health care, same-sex marriage, strict gun control, environmental protection, clean/renewable energy, government regulation on abusive business practices, military intervention as a last resort, college being affordable, a progressive tax, stem cell research, strict separation of church and state, legal abortion (through about the first trimester), stopping the use of capital punishment, making hunting illegal, and other stuff I'll add when I think of it.
Religion
I'm an atheist. I don't believe God can definitively and conclusively be proven or disproven but it certainly looks to me like he's not there and that the universe does not require him. I have no problem with other people being religious as long as it's not thrown in my face. I can't help but be bugged, however, when people believe in a 6000 year old earth or deny evolution. I mean c'mon.
Philosophy
I can't say I've ever had a clear personal philosophy about life and I'm always pondering the different purposes of life and philosophy, how they pertain to me, where I stand on them, and which I choose to embrace and abide by. For the most part, though, I believe one should go through life intending it to be personally meaningful. One should approach life as an opportunity to develop one's skills, do what one loves to do, and have fun while being moral, ethical, and empathetic.
Specifically, I guess you could say my religion philosophy is secular humanist.
Interests & Stuff
Despite a wide variety of interests I'm an undeclared major in college and have absolutely no idea what I want to do as a career. I like running; hiking; sleeping; eating; reading; pondering; being creative; writing; cosmology; paleozoology; metaphysics; existentialism; psychology (specifically oneirology); studying religion as a psychological phenomenon; ancient history regarding Egypt, China, and Mesoamerica; and some historical mysteries (such as the Shroud of Turin or the Knights Templar, for example).
You
...are flattering me by reading this.
Feel free to give me tips and pointers (especially if it looks like I need them).
Have fun...
