Picon small.pngLiquid Blue04:55, 27 February 2011

What cabal? There is no cabal.

ТyTalk.04:59, 27 February 2011

Could you send me a different address then?

ТyTalk.00:10, 28 February 2011

oh no, I did get the email. Honestly, I'm not going to be able to do a whole lot with skype broken here... and I remain quite busy. Sort of like this:

maybe this...

Holy mother of God, your talk page has actually killed my elaborate signature. This has never happened before.

That is quite unfortunate. I can't imagine why something like that might have happened... but regardless, yes, we should discuss something. Possibly even a discus.

Your about me says you love all music except for three kinds, but I can only count two..... unless I'm being really dense.

DalekEXTERMINATE22:18, 24 February 2011

No :P It was me being pointlessly abstruse again. I meant to say I am merely "very into" all music except that I dislike two kinds and am especially into another.

Picon small.pngLiquid Blue22:28, 24 February 2011

You hate jazz!?!?!?

What the hell is wrong with you? As we speak, I've got the Miles Davis (with Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Tony Williams and Ron Carter) "Live at the Plugged Nickel" box set on shuffle -- there is very little that moves me as much as this stuff. How can you be so dismissive? It's like I don't know you anymore. You and me? We're done.

P-Foster (talk)02:51, 22 February 2011

I hate jazz. Well, not "hate", but I'd much rather listen to other things.

Ace of Spades02:53, 22 February 2011

The only music I refuse to listen to is country and rap. As the local jazz station plays only 2 minutes of commercials/hour...

ТyTalk.02:58, 22 February 2011

Almost all jazz sounds exactly the same to me, and I find it boring. When jazz mixes with classical, it gets a lot more interesting, though; I'm thinking Shostakovich's jazz suite and Ticheli's Blue Shades. Then again, I have a very eclectic taste in music - Romantic-era classical, Spanish pop and some alt-pop like the Ting Tings is most of what I listen to. Er.

Ace, I love you. (Platonically.)

Picon small.pngLiquid Blue04:26, 22 February 2011

Sorry, you fail at jazz. :P Listen to Jelly Roll Morton and then listen to Eric Dolphy and tell me they're the same.

Nebuchadnezzar (talk)04:32, 22 February 2011

Of course in theory there's variety. But it's like listening to Baroque-era music for me, it just puts me to sleep.

I love that movie.

El laberinto del fauno. :)

Rationalize (talk)00:06, 23 February 2011

Ah, sí, absolutamente fantástica esa película :)

Creo que es comparable a Black Swan (por este año).

Picon small.pngLiquid Blue00:10, 23 February 2011

Picon small.pngLiquid Blue00:23, 23 February 2011

Pues, vamos a ver. Ojalá gane Natalie Portman, es muy dotada :)

Rationalize (talk)00:30, 23 February 2011

Ella es prácticamente garantizada ganar.

Don't be stealin' my boxen

Nah, you can have as many as you want actually. Fellow Mencken-ites and fighters of free market fundamentalism are always welcome.

Nebuchadnezzar (talk)04:17, 7 February 2011

Philip Pullman calls it "the greedy ghost of market fundamentalism." The link is either in the Saloon Bar or one of the archives, and it's under the heading "Pullman on libraries." I highly recommend it.

Thanks for the boxen. Feel free to lift any of mine...

Picon small.pngLiquid Blue04:33, 7 February 2011

Yes, the phrase "capitalist pig" does not draw the crowds that it used to, so the pinkos need a fresher snarl word of identical meaning.

The header is actually "Pulman on libraries" (this is why I am a grammar-Nazi; "grep" is not as forgiving as the MediaWiki search engine), and is located here.

Mjollnir.svgListenerXTalkerX04:51, 7 February 2011

The "greedy ghost" is not the same thing as a "capitalist pig." The former is a metaphor for an ideology, the latter is a label for a person.

Picon small.pngLiquid Blue04:57, 7 February 2011

To clarify: The snarl word I was referring to is "market fundamentalist."

Mjollnir.svgListenerXTalkerX04:59, 7 February 2011

Ah. Well, if you'd call anyone who believes that there might possibly be something that shouldn't be privatized a "pinko," I suppose you'd also have a quarrel with Social Security, Medicare, public schools, et al., to say nothing of public libraries.

Picon small.pngLiquid Blue05:10, 7 February 2011

Yeah, damn pinkos! Actually, I'm pretty capitalist, but what we have now is an entire political party arguing for unfettered capitalism (actually more like unfettered for their campaign contributors) in the wake of one of the greatest market failures in history, supported by all sorts of bullshit revisionist history and "research" using Schlafly statistics being cranked out by "think tanks." Now we have CEI and Cato approved versions of history where the robber barons were great heroes, the labor wars never happened (unions, what unions?), FDR was a commie and the New Deal was the biggest policy failure of the 20th century. Yes, keep shoving any failure of capitalism down the memory hole. I'm waiting for the day when one of these think tanks proposes privatizing air. It always reminds me of this Tom Tomorrow cartoon.

Nebuchadnezzar (talk)05:10, 7 February 2011

Ironically, it was a classical liberal, Frederic Bastiat, who sarcastically proposed privatizing light.

I'm feeling restless...

Who would get annoyed if I quietly changed my name again?

Picon small.pngLiquid Blue05:34, 8 February 2011

That would depend, for me, on what you wanted to change it to.

Mjollnir.svgListenerXTalkerX05:39, 8 February 2011

Hypatia, perhaps. I recently saw Agora.

Picon small.pngLiquid Blue05:44, 8 February 2011

So did I. They apparently named it that because they thought "Hypatia" was an ugly-sounding name; I disagree.

Mjollnir.svgListenerXTalkerX05:54, 8 February 2011

None of my beeswax, naturally, but I'm skittish around folks who choose Classical Greek (or Roman, for that matter) names for themselves. Is your choice based on a fondness for mathematics, or a looming sense that you may meet an untimely end at the hands of a religious book-burning mob?

Sprocket J Cogswell (talk)06:00, 8 February 2011

The mob who killed Hypatia were a witch-burning (or witch-skinning, as it happened) mob, not a book-burning one; they thought she had hexed the prefect of Alexandria into not attending church.

Mjollnir.svgListenerXTalkerX06:07, 8 February 2011

She was a rather impressive female figure for her time. The film makes her out as an atheist, which would be great but as far as the historical record shows, she was probably a pagan.

Thanks. I've actually lurked at RationalWiki for a while, but I decided to register when I saw the Austrian economics-related stuff was lacking in content. I'm not an econ student or anything, but I've been trying to get a layman's understanding of it since 2008 and fighting off the proliferation of Austrian junk on the internet and the persistently trollish Austrian cranks and Schiff-tards on message boards is actually pretty difficult.

Nebuchadnezzar (talk)01:00, 10 January 2011

I understand quite little of that but I assume the proliferation of Austrian cranks and Schiff-tards is something that's worth fighting off (:

Picon small.pngLiquid Blue04:08, 11 January 2011

Definitely. Austrian school is so spectacularly stupid -- it's so wrong it's not even wrong from top to bottom. It's the economic equivalent of creationism. That's pretty bad considering there is no economic equivalent of evolution. Being so obviously wrong in a field where there are very few "right" answers is really an accomplishment. :D

Nebuchadnezzar (talk)06:03, 15 January 2011

I would not discount it quite so totally, but its a priori nature cripples it badly.

Jackshit except bitch and moan the whole way, cry fascism, accuse people like Blue of being power hungry, and condoning as well as participating in rampant trolling.

"Shut up, Brx."16:15, 21 December 2012

If bitching and moaning is actually participating in policy discussions in a productive manner then yes. I disapproved of the moderator system. It's been a minor point of contention in my friendship with Trent. But from the start I tried at least making sure some of these procedures were fair, or even necessary. Not even Blue, who despises me, can deny that.

I frankly do think that trying to implement rules that don't solve actual problems and that expand moderator power indicates a hunger for power. To the extent that Blue and the small group of people on her side of the discussion have been more successful than I have in actually getting away with it is fairly characterized as authoritarian in my view. This is about fundamental disagreements in the role of the moderator. You've contributed nothing of any value. In fact, from the start all your did was stir shit by doing exactly what you're doing here: impugning me and misrepresenting my intentions. You're a dishonest pig.

As for "condoning and participating in rampant trolling," how do you characterize my tolerance of your own trolling when I was a moderator. Is that bad news bears? Following my term, I'm not responsible for anyone else's behavior. I gather the "rampant trolling" your referring to is not so rampant at all, but my admitted harassment of you. You're a vile and worthless creature. You've actively undermined important and highly contentious political processes here while advancing inconsistent, and frankly ridiculously unsupportable positions, solely to stir up shit. This includes sockpuppet voting in the last election and then turning around to chide Nx for it. He admitted what he did for whatever reason. You were a gutless and hypocritical punk about it. As I've said, I view you as a parasite for what you've done to undermine the very processes we're talking about here by lying about your enemies and pretending you're trolling in secret.

I've been long hoping you'd have the decency to leave once and for all. Now I'll just wait for someone to ask for a community ban and be one of the first to vote against you.
