Views by countries

Hi! Do you know, is there on RationalWiki service that admit us to see dynamics of views by countries? It is interesting to see what the influence made my contributions to the quantity of users from Russia and CIS.

Bertran (talk)15:12, 13 March 2011

I honestly do not know.

ТyTalk.17:17, 13 March 2011

The only way to really do it is off of apache log analysis, what I have is really pretty sketchy since 35+ percent of the traffic has not geolocation at all but I can give you some relative numbers. The problem is that we didn't start getting the current data till middle of November (when we moved servers) so the comparisons are limited.

Basically the site as a whole saw a 17 percent increase in traffic between Dec 2010 and Jan 2011, while visitors from Russia saw a 34 percent increase. So there does seem to be a good bump that is not explainable merely by general increases in traffic. This is not a statistical argument however.

February was only 28 days which makes analysis of that data even more problematic. Anyway, it is something I can try and monitor over time and give updates if you wish. Dynamically making that data available is not likely to happen though anytime soon but I can file it away as an interesting feature to look into.

Tmtoulouse (talk)17:30, 13 March 2011

Trent, is it possible to post up this apache data on a semi-regular basis? say quarterly or annually, for the anal among us? Totnesmartin (talk) 19:02, 13 March 2011 (UTC)

Totnesmartin (talk)19:02, 13 March 2011

Thank you for interesting information! Yes, I wish! If it is possible to do something in making available this data, I would like this. I think, that my activity can cause a great increase in popularity of this site among CIS. And it would be interesting to monitor it. Of course, statistics of views by countries per month would be the best. If this cause a lot of problem, statistics per quarters is also good.

Newbie question

Hi, I'm new here, saw your name make a block so must be an admin... I have a question... Where would RationalWiki fall on the political spectrum? (center left, far left, socialist, etc) Need to know so I write articles from the right POV. Thanks! C. Roberts (talk) 18:26, 10 March 2011 (UTC)

C. Roberts (talk)18:26, 10 March 2011

Generally, socially very left, fiscal Keynesian to communist, depending on the editor

ТyTalk.18:28, 10 March 2011

Ok, thanks

C. Roberts (talk)18:32, 10 March 2011

You're welcome.

Removing US propaganda is NOT vandalism.

Replacing it with DPRK propaganda is.

ТyTalk.23:51, 6 March 2011

Its not propaganda, its the truth

Don't you have better things do be doing with your time?

ТyTalk.03:34, 7 March 2011

He most certainly does; e.g., trimming his hair in accordance with the socialist lifestyle.

Mjollnir.svgListenerXTalkerX03:56, 7 March 2011

Why do you not take me seriously? My complaints are genuine and I have typed up a well written alternative to the article but you reject it.

Apparently tourism is not doing so well in North Korea. Either that or Kim Jong-Il is getting ronery again.

ТyTalk.16:59, 6 March 2011

You made me a sysop didn't you?

Let Them Eat Cake (talk)20:26, 6 March 2011

Yes, but nearly everyone here is a sysop.

ТyTalk.22:06, 6 March 2011

Oh, right. Well I'm not overwhelmed then.

Let Them Eat Cake (talk)22:56, 6 March 2011

Well... It was the thought that counts.

The "Hollitov Cocktail"

You're in college, right? The recipe I used to use in college for staying awake was one 5-hour energy drink followed immediately by 2 Mt. Dew Amp energy Tall Boys and washed down with a cup of espresso. And that's how I'd START my day.

Gooniepunk2010 Oi! Oi! Oi!05:06, 6 March 2011

Some of us have no cash, and are watching our weight. :< May try it later on though, once I've got my jogging schedule fixed.

ТyTalk.05:11, 6 March 2011

If you're starting your day with that, you've either got 3 days left until you submit a PhD or you've done something horribly, horribly wrong. Like leaving it 3 days until you have to submit a PhD.

I am a sysop now. I am confused.

After making minor edits concerning grammar and spelling, I have been promoted (or maybe demoted as the sysop guide told me), is it really THAT EASY here? I know this place appreciates its lulz, but this feels like a weird joke somehow.

JabberwockDownTheHole (talk)01:34, 5 March 2011

Everyone here is a sysop. It is much harderish to become a bureaucrat though.

ТyTalk.01:36, 5 March 2011

I see. Well moving on.

Don't be dishonest and participate in Boy Scouts when you're not allowed to. Avowed atheists and sodomites are prohibited. Moreover, stop removing the scholarly links I've added on evidence for God. John Lennox is an Oxford Mathematician and John Polkinghorne

is a University of Cambridge theoretical physicist. Thanks, 24.165.205.140 (talk) 06:03, 27 February 2011 (UTC)
24.165.205.140 (talk)06:03, 27 February 2011

I was in Boy Scouts.. I left when I was 15 because I felt guilty being in Boy Scouts. So yeah. Fuck you too.

And that's not a scholarly link. It's a link to scholars. In this case there's a huge difference. It'll keep getting reverted.

Also: This is my first time using LQT. To be honest, I like it, and don't see what the fuss is about.

ТyTalk.13:10, 27 February 2011

I agree with you on the Boy Scouts, but what does this "Moreover, stop removing the scholarly links I've added on evidence for God. John Lennox is an Oxford Mathematician and John Polkinghorne" have to do with Boy Scouts?

{{User:ColbertFan/sig}} (talk)21:53, 4 March 2011

Editing from iPhone so took me a minute to block that IP. In the meantime you already had. I respect your authorteh and would never intentionally step on your crazy wiki-toes unless I was trying to cause trouble. See how that works?

Nutty Roux100x100 anarchy symbol.svgUser:Nutty Roux/sigtalk15:10, 4 March 2011

Reh?

ТyTalk.15:10, 4 March 2011

You blocked an IP address for cutting huge chunks of the Jonathan Edwards article. I had opened up a block dialog on my iPhone as soon as I saw that he was edit warring you, but the difficulty of using it for things like wiki editing meant you were able to open and complete your own block dialog before me. Whence came my explanation of apparently arbitrarily changing the BoN's block length.

Nutty Roux100x100 anarchy symbol.svgUser:Nutty Roux/sigtalk15:27, 4 March 2011

Ah, Ok, I didn't think anything of it.

ТyTalk.15:29, 4 March 2011

Totally unaccaptable?

One of our top 100 editors has only ever made 1 mainspace edit. That is completely unacceptable, even for us.
Why is this unacceptable? Who says it is unacceptable? Is there some sort of guideline?

Ace of Spades00:35, 3 March 2011

No, that is just me talking to myself. In case you haven't noticed I attach numbers to everything. It is part of my OCD.

ТyTalk.01:59, 3 March 2011

There's a lot of legitimate RW activity outside the mainspace. The SB is in the RW space, as are the WIGOs, and then there's Conservapedia, debate, forum and the talk pages. I don't think it's as much of a problem. I'd be very concerned about the site's sustainability if it was most of the top 100 hadn't touched the mainspace, but other than that, it's not a problem.

Scarlet A.pngbomination15:31, 3 March 2011

Did you read my list? I updated it for February. It is quite interesting. Of course mainspace isn't the only useful place on the wiki (otherwise we wouldn't be calling Mei useful). And I am not in favor of deleting(even if we could) WIGO:CP. I'm just concerned about the future of the wiki, that is all.

If I remember correctly...

...you live in Baton Rouge, right? I'm curious...what's the consensus on ol' Les Miles around there right now? If you're not a football guy then disregard this post.

PACODOGwoof, bitches04:55, 27 February 2011

I am not a football guy, but I attend LSU so I constantly have football around me, whether I want it or not. His cult is huge, but we burn rival coaches in effigy around here. Also, he eats grass. And gets paid more than the chancellor.

ТyTalk.04:57, 27 February 2011

Sorry, the consensus is, from my sister, that he needs to stop last-minute victories and learn how to manage the clock. But she actually goes to the games.

ТyTalk.05:01, 27 February 2011

Eats grass? He's a vegetarian?

PACODOGwoof, bitches05:03, 27 February 2011

Oh no, he and Canes are in too deep. Canes being the front for his cult. No, on the field he pulls grass up and eats it. No, I don't know why.

ТyTalk.05:04, 27 February 2011

He has a reputation for being a little crazy, i know but...seriously? He eats grass off the field? I was not aware of this.

Do you know how to make tables pretty? You seem quite sharp... if you do, any chance you'd look at User:Dalek/Box and tell me how to make it hidden, rather than open, when first loaded, and how to give the title bar a background colour? Many thanks.

DalekEXTERMINATE19:51, 24 February 2011

I don't think you can, at least with our version of collapsible tables. I might take a look at it.

Picon small.pngAcer Blue19:56, 24 February 2011

Thank you both. I was thinking of using multiple ones for my user page, "Religious beliefs," "Political beliefs," etc, etc, which people could open if they cared to.

DalekEXTERMINATE19:58, 24 February 2011

I've fixed it. The markup for a collapsible table that will be collapsed on load is: class="collapsible collapsed"
