William Campbell Douglass II[1] is a doctor, alternative medicine pusher, and conspiracy theorist. As a conspiracy theorist, he believes that the World Health Organization developed AIDS as part of the New World Order's nefarious plan to take over the world by depopulating the Earth.[2] As an altie, he believes, among other things:
- Cigarettes are good[3][4][5]
- Vegetarianism is bad
- Meat and salt are good
- Raw milk is good[6]
- Pasteurized milk is bad
- Fluoride is bad[7]
- Vaccines are bad[8]
- Sunlight doesn't cause melanoma, but prevents it[9]
- Aspartame is bad[10]
In one anti-vaccine article, Douglass manages to accomplish the impressive feat of praising and denigrating anecdotes at the same time:
| And then go for the jugular with a recent headline, because you’ll always find something like this: Japan reports sixth infant death after vaccination?.
That’s from just a couple of weeks ago, before the disaster there. Does that sound safe to you? [I don't know, Bill, since YOU DIDN'T PROVIDE A LINK.] [...] Your nemeses will no doubt start repeating some sob story they found on the Internet about someone who died of an obscure disease… but forget the anecdotal tales and just look at the numbers: [OK, so anecdotes are bad, except when you're using them to bash vaccines.] All the major diseases supposedly eradicated by vaccines were on the decline BEFORE those injections came on the scene. [Oh, really? Which ones?] And when these diseases hit today, they’re often nothing to worry about: [Ah, so they were declining, but they're still here. Gotcha.] The last big measles outbreak, for example, had a death rate of about a quarter of a percent. [Yeah, who cares about those dead people? Anything (including dying) is better than getting those evil, death-less MMR vaccines.][11] |
(Emphasis and comments added.) Here, Douglass is either being dishonest by using contradictory logic, or simply fallacious. He also seems to clump all vaccines into one category.
Douglass also owns a webstore which sells his special brand of expensive supplements.[12][13]
