Affluenza is a neologism describing an alleged disorder characterized by a harmful desire for money and the pursuit of wealth. This may be accompanied by a feeling of entitlement, low self-esteem, depression, irresponsibility , an inability to delay gratification or tolerate rules that prevent gratification. It originated with the anti-consumerism movement.

The term affluenza is a portmanteau of affluence and influenza. It has been described as a "rich person's disease".

This "condition" was once successfully used as a legal defense against a charge of vehicular manslaughter. [1]
