Andorra
From RationalWiki
Andorra is the only "co-principality" in the world, with the two co-princes being the Spanish Bishop Joan Enric Vives i Sicília, whose diocese also includes Andorra, and some fellow named François Hollande.[1]
Andorra's economy is tied strongly to tourism and helping people avoid paying taxes. Most of the tourism industry is actually related to the giving of visas, as it is prized by constant travelers as a rare and hard-to-get visa (the country is far in the mountains, and there are many trains that will bypass it entirely.)
The country is mostly Roman Catholic, but there is a growing Muslim population and several Protestant communities.
[edit] Notes al peu
- ↑ Once upon a time, a bishop and a noble were the co-princes, each holding land on either side of the tiny principality. As time passed, the noble's land was absorbed into the French state, but not the Bishop's into the Spanish state. The Kings of France therefore became Co-Princes, and upon the fall of the last French monarchy the title devolved to the succeeding French head of state, the president.
