Athorism is a parody term coined by Richard Dawkins in his essay "Let's Hope It's A Lasting Vogue".[1] It is a belief that the Norse god Thor does not exist.
The motivation behind speaking about athorism is to show the fallacy of the argument that atheism is also a religion. By presenting an ancient pagan god who most people today do not believe actually exists, proponents of atheism employ reductio ad absurdum, showing that many arguments for the existence of God can be deconstructed simply by replacing "God" with "Thor", and that just like atheists, religionists do not believe in the vast majority of gods from the world's current and historical religions; they only believe in their own.
