The Creation of Adam.jpg

Below is a list of scientists alive today who accept the biblical account of creation ("biblical" lower-case in original) from Creation Ministries International.

Creationists are fond of argumentum ad populum and argument from authority. Not understanding how actual science works, they often produce lists of people who believe what they do as support for their position.

Presumably this list is meant to be inclusive. If so, then it's pretty miserable. The number of scientists who do not believe in magic is vastly, unimaginably, greater. This can be seen from Project Steve produced by the National Center for Science Education.

This particular list notes that "Individuals on this list must possess a doctorate in a science-related field." But, as we will see, "related" appears to include:

  • mathematicians and statisticians — fields consisting almost entirely of a priori reasoning rather than scientific observation
  • assorted medical professionals, including two dentists, two veterinarians and two plastic surgeons[1]
  • engineers
  • and even a couple of philosophers.

Even the actual scientists frequently work in fields completely unrelated to the subject at hand. But, but, SCIENCE!

Some of the listed scientists are academics, all at evangelical Christian universities, such as the usual suspects Bob Jones University and Liberty University as well as more obscure ones like Cedarville University (in Ohio) and California Baptist University — the types of colleges David Horowitz would swoon over.

[edit] The list

This is the list as accessed at 2010-06-08.[2] People removed from previous versions have been struck out.

  1. Dr. Paul Ackerman, Psychologist
    • Works in a field completely unrelated to the subject at hand. Is the Chair in Psychology at Wichita State University. Frequent lecturer for AIG, but lectures only on the history of the movement, the history of "Darwinian" research and philosophical questions about why humans search for unanswerable answers. Rejects any scientific discussions at his lectures.[3]
  2. Dr. E. Theo Agard, Medical Physics.
    • According to Dr. Agard, his subscription to creationism can be "largely summarized"[4] by ignorance about whether the chicken or the egg came first.
  3. Dr. James Allan, Geneticist
    • Unpublished geneticist and cattle breeding consultant. Subscribed to creationism after asking himself vague questions about origins.[5]
  4. Dr John Ashton, Chemist, Food technology
    • Ph.D. in chemistry, strategic research manager for the Sanitarium Health Food Company (The Sanitarium Health food company is owned by the Seventh Day Adventist Church which supports Young Earth Creationism). Knows his chemistry. Publishes lots of books advocating young Earth creationism.
  5. Dr. Steve Austin, bionic man professional wrestler Geologist
  6. Dr. S.E. Aw, Biochemist
  7. Dr. Thomas Barnes, Physicist
    • Working with an obsolete model of the earth's core, Dr. Barnes asserted that the earth's magnetic field is decaying exponentially, ignoring empirical evidence to the contrary.[6] Working under these erroneous assertions, he somehow managed to arrive at his predetermined conclusions. Also a firm denier of relativity.[7]
    • Removed from the CMI list as of the 2014-10-29 version.
    • Deceased in 2001.
  8. Dr. Geoff Barnard, Immunologist
    • According to his group's Statement of Faith,[8] Dr. Barnard bases his belief in creation on the Bible, not empirical evidence. He asserts that "[n]o apparent, perceived, or claimed evidence in any historical or scientific field of study can be valid if it contradicts the record of Holy Scripture". Science be damned!

    • After obtaining his Ph.D in 1996, Dr. Yuan has since been a missionary, switched to studying theology, and is currently a pastor. His Ph.D cannot be disputed but he's hardly what one would describe as a working scientist.[20]
  242. Dr. Henry Zuill, Biology
    • Professor emeritus at Union College (Nebraska), a Seventh Day Adventist college whose science and mathematical division states, among other things, that this division "..concentrates on helping students to know God as the Creator while providing plenty of practical experience.[21] A decidedly unscientific goal.
