Colorado, where the earth threw up

Colorado is a US state, and is distinctive for once being highly conservative, but now a more liberal, place. These political poles are exemplified by two cities, Boulder and Colorado Springs.

[edit] Boulder

Boulder is a city in Colorado, and one of the most liberal cities in the United States. In 2008 they entered Jared Polis[1], an openly gay politician, into the race for the United States House of Representatives, he won (and was re-elected in 2010).

Boulder is a very socialist and green city, and they tend to lead the state (and sometimes the country) when adopting new environmental laws. You can actually call Boulder "The People's Republic of Boulder" and they won't get offended there—just don't speed through a pedestrian crossing. On the other hand, Boulder has managed to run in the red for the past 8 years, and consistently ignores the state's TABOR and Gallagher tax laws, doing whatever they want. They are also one of the single most racist towns in Colorado. Socialists, but rich, white socialists.

Boulder was also recently ranked as the most educated city in the United States.[2] Given the number of government scientists and the University of Colorado being its most central feature, this is not surprising—until you take into account the amount of New Age and Mysticism (as well as many forms of hippy-inspired woo) that the general populace likes to indulge in.[3]

The University of Colorado (Boulder) Buffaloes (called The Buffs) football team are also there when people need an excuse to watch a game and drink when the others have an off day. Many students seem to find a game as an excuse to riot, winning or losing, so drinking has been curtailed in recent years: "3.2" beer was sold at the Buffs football games until 1996; however, liquor sales continue in the box suites, if you're wealthy enough to have one, and if you're reading this, you aren't. The absence of alcohol (for the unwashed masses) sort of defeats the point of going outside to watch the team screw up, as it usually does. Don't mention the Colorado State (CSU) Rams around game time, it can even throw the old hippies into a rage.

Beer sales continue as normal for the basketball games, but who gives a shit about that—they can't give away tickets to watch them lose, and the Lady Buffs haven't had a winning season in a while since their long-time coach Ceal Barry retired a few years back.

[edit] Colorado Springs

Colorado Springs is a city in Colorado. In contrast to Boulder, it seems to be the wingnut capital of the Rocky Mountains United States.

The United States Air Force Academy is located in the Springs, and Ted Haggard and James Dobson are from there. Michelle Malkin also relocated from the Washington, D.C. area to Colorado Springs around 2006.

Colorado Springs is home to the headquarters of Focus on the Family and The Navigators.

[edit] The KKK

Unfortunately, the Ku Klux Klan was a prominent political force in Colorado during the early twentieth century, and had one governor who was a member (Clarence Morley, 1925-1927). A two-time mayor of Denver, Benjamin Stapleton, was also a member. In an ironic twist, the airport that bore his name for many decades was redeveloped into a suburban community (largely multicultural/multiracial), split in half by Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard.

[edit] Birth comtrol

Free contraception has been provided to Colorado teenagers causing a dramatic decline in unwanted teen pregnancies. [4]
