[edit] Come join my party!

Clive Palmer had a spat with the National Party and as such, left the party and announced the formation of his own party, the reformation of the "United Australia Party" to contest the 2013 Federal Election. This was rejected by the Australian Electoral Commission due to the fact that it was too similarly named to another political party, the "Uniting Australia Party". So Clive did what any selfless person would do - he named his party after himself.

In an interview, he claimed that he was running in the election to be the "next Prime Minister of Australia", after which he said, "I'm not running to be the next Prime Minister of Australia".

[edit] Successful? / not successful?

Predictably, Clive did not become Prime Minister and in this instance, most Australians are thankful that it was Tony Abbott instead, even if he is a homophobic, misogynistic wingnut. Clive, however, was elected into the the Australian House of Representatives, in the seat of Fairfax where he rolled the Liberal candidate by 7 votes [ wp ].

Since being elected into parliament, Clive has been known for his lack of attendance to parliamentary sittings, and on the odd occasion that he does attend he is known for nodding off[1]. So much for the House of so-called Representatives.

[edit] Outside of politics

[edit] Mining

He runs and has stakes in various coal mining ventures within Australia. This had many people asking the question as to whether he should have voted on legislation such as the mining tax or the carbon tax repeals.

[edit] Dinosaurs

He runs a resort and golf course in Queensland which features, of all things, dinosaurs. Of course, he named this after himself as well.[2]

[edit] Titanic II

Clive embarked on the massive undertaking of building a replica of the Titanic.
