Confirmed bachelor is a euphemism applied, historically, to seemingly eligible men who over the course of their life seem to just never quite get around to marrying a nice girl woman and settling down. The implication is that the "confirmed bachelor" might be homosexual, and thus have no use for the sacraments of marriage, at least as far as they involve heterosexual coitus.
It does not imply that they hang out at the docks meeting sailors, or that they enjoy the educating of young men.
