[edit] Proposition

According to many conservatives Video Games cause children to become imprinted with the violence of the games. i agree that this may apply to people below the age of 4 children above that age should know murder is bad and should know you don't re-spawn when you die, also there are plenty of other games for kids to play that aren't violent. But i have played games for years and i dont have murderous urges. I believe this may be a problem if you are mentally unstable, or highly impressionable; but just because some people eat too many sandwiches, does that mean you ban sandwiches? Also studies have shown that video games are actually good for you[1]. Bubba41102 (talk) 12:35, 23 April 2015 (UTC)

[edit] A few facts to color things

(Feel free to add to this list, I'm leaving it unsigned for that reason)

  1. The sale of video game systems has been inversely correlated with violence levels. This isn't particularly informative, correlation/causation and all that, but it colors moral panics as somewhat silly "There's less violent crime among youth than 10 years ago and we must stop it" isn't exactly a rallying cry for a moral crusade.
  2. Ownership of videogame consoles is also moderately predictive of lower personal criminal activity. That's probably mostly wrapped up in socioeconomics, as poverty is a driver of not having a console and adolescent troublemaking.
  3. Two classes of games have been clearly demonstrated, in the short term, to positively affect aggression levels in children and teenagers: highly competitive games and popular violent games. Other video games have lacked the same apparent effect.
  4. Games involving REAL guns predate video games with fake guns by quite some time. Longer if you count bows, darts, slings and javelins.
  5. If video games like Grand Theft Auto teach people to become career criminals, by that same logic, playing Dr Mario is a substitute for Med School.
Neither of these are the kind of scientifically relevant facts I intended. ikanreed You probably didn't deserve that 20:43, 22 April 2015 (UTC)
Scientific studies versus a Reductio ad Absurdium and a historical note. Eh, if you feel strongly about it, you have my permission to move/delete/EXTERMINATE/alter them as you feel appropriate.CorruptUser (talk) 20:51, 22 April 2015 (UTC)
We could just change the heading to "Information to color things"" Bubba41102 (talk) 12:38, 23 April 2015 (UTC)
