Proposition[edit]

My problem is the name 'rational wiki' and what it implies. If I understand correctly, based on what I have viewed from this site, here are the core beliefs:

1) a secular, anti-religious point of view (the vast majority of humanity, especially third world countries, disagrees with you).

2) a left wing point of view (particularly only from first world countries in the English speaking world), and even then be picky about who counts are "real" left wingers.

Basically, you all are trying to say that less than 1% of the world's population could qualify as "rational" and I find that to be just a bit arrogant, even if I agree with the majority of the opinions here.

If you think only the people with you are rational (a fringe minority of the world) that sounds more like a cult than anything. So perhaps a new name for the wiki could come across as less arrogant.

'Secular Wiki' as one example of many possibilities. As a self-hating, educated, affluent liberal myself, here is what I have to say: "Oh my God we know what's good for all the poor people and all the brown and people if only they would listen to us." I think this comes across as arrogant. We should not presume or pretend we know what is in the best interest of others, or that they would live their lives the same as us if they knew what we did. Many people around the world are perfectly happy with their religious beliefs, or with their political beliefs that do not meet the narrow-minded views on this blog. And let me reiterate "narrow-minded". A fringe minority view that looks down upon anything else definitely meets the definition of "narrow-minded" in my opinion. And again, I actually agree with most of the stuff on this wiki. That's the sad part. I just wish you had a new name.

There is a reason why Wikipedia is much more relevant than this. This blog is the same as Conservapedia, only they at least have a more honest name. Wikipedia has sources on just about anything, and while nothing is 100% unbiased, they make a legitimate effort.

Rational Wiki mostly covers specific, hot button issues and will take a predictable, left wing/secular position. Examples include "creep shaming is not the same as slut shaming" or "incels" or whatever. The reason Wikipedia doesn't mention this stuff is that most people don't care, so it doesn't even warrant a page. Not that they are in any way understaffed to provide that if they wanted it. So again, this wiki is something for people with niche interests in left wing (and only a particular kind of left), secular view points to circlejerk against everything they don't like. And I actually agree with what most of the site likes and dislikes. But I am laying out what is my honest interpretation of the site and why many people dislike it. It is no more a credible source than Conservapedia. And don't give me this "but we provide citations". They also do that. Selection bias is when you only look at evidence/citations that support your argument and ignore or try to disprove everything else. You do it, and they also do it. Even Wikipedia is not perfect, but they're closer to it than either of you. — Unsigned, by: 47.223.84.181 / talk

Most of the other names got taken up when the site was started, that's pretty much the only reason we have the name. SkepticWiki could work, but yeah. RoninMacbeth (talk) 05:57, 5 September 2017 (UTC)
Life isn't fair either; just try and get a refund. See: Essay:I thought this was supposed to be RATIONALWiki. Bongolian (talk) 07:41, 5 September 2017 (UTC)

Not everyone here is secular/atheist or even liberal y'know. — Dysk (contribs) 15:31, 23 April 2019 (UTC)
On RW you are allowed to be opinionated on WP you have to be NPOV - and a discussion like this would not be allowed. (And 'Shell-the-company' now has very little to do with shells).
There is nothing to stop the Original Poster from creating a wiki that reflects his/her/its/their/ze's (and all other relevant pronouns in the possessive form) point of view. Anna Livia (talk) 16:36, 23 April 2019 (UTC)
Akctushally if this who I think it is, they did that already. :/ — Dysk (contribs) 16:51, 23 April 2019 (UTC)
