One-editor essay?[edit]

Is this supposed to be a one-editor essay or a collaborative one? Mjollnir.svgListenerXTalkerX 16:21, 18 September 2009 (UTC)

Please feel free to edit this work. I almost dropped it in the main section but it reads more like an essay. I intentionally left off the "essay" tag at the top. Thanks for your interest in this article. zieber 16:26, 18 September 2009 (UTC)
That said, I would appreciate it if you wouldn't delete anything but rather add additional explanation. zieber 16:30, 18 September 2009 (UTC)
Can you explain why it should be in the least contradictory to convene a council to affirm an entirely new practice (at which Peter, who baptized Cornelius, spoke in favor of it)? Mjollnir.svgListenerXTalkerX 16:39, 18 September 2009 (UTC)
The point of the paragraph is the historicity of the Jerusalem Council circa 50 CE. It seems unlikely that there would be "much discussion" (Acts 15:7) regarding Gentiles and the law if there had already been a Gentile conversion (Cornelius) and especially without any mention of the Cornelius incident. Also Paul did not reference the decision of the council in his rendition of the event (Gal. 2) or his discussion of allowable food (1 Cor. 8:7-8, 10:19-29). This is not a strong contradiction so much as an inconsistency.
Please feel free to edit the paragraph or add your reservations to the end of it. zieber 17:15, 18 September 2009 (UTC)
It was a disagreement between two parties in the Church. Many Gentiles had already converted, not only Cornelius, and the pro-circumcision party was centered at Jerusalem where there were proportionally few Gentile converts. Mjollnir.svgListenerXTalkerX 17:23, 18 September 2009 (UTC)

Clean up, and move to main space[edit]

This could be a really useful main space article, if we cleaned it up, cited it, etc. Is the primary author still around?Pink mowse.pngGodotThe Peyote God awaits 15:05, 28 September 2011 (UTC)

Indeed. ADK...I'll suck your Doppelgänger! 15:07, 28 September 2011 (UTC)
I tossed it on my work bench. so many projects after the elections. :-) Oh November 2nd, how I long for you. Pink mowse.pngGodotThe Peyote God awaits 15:08, 28 September 2011 (UTC)
Well, a lot of things in the essay space are collaborative, which in principle makes them no different to mainspace articles - I always maintain that I prefer the description of "collaborative essay" than "article". The difference being that essays sometimes have odd subject matter or titles that make them difficult to put into the mainspace. But I think we can appropriate this one readily enough. ADK...I'll employ your lighting! 15:15, 28 September 2011 (UTC)
Moving is fine, judging from the comments above. TyTy 15:17, 28 September 2011 (UTC)
I personally would love a different "namespace" for those kinds of articles, but I get poohpooed when i mention it, so I stopped. :-) I still think those types of data filled, opinionated essay like articles are what makes the life of this place for people who are on the outside. why come here, cause we have great resources about why the bible is not "True", or how to argue with Creationists, etc.Pink mowse.pngGodotThe Peyote God awaits 15:20, 28 September 2011 (UTC) (edit con) :::::At Ty - it needs a lot of work, though, first. Not only some really shoddy writing, but some serious factual errors. And it's easy to cite, so it should be cited.Pink mowse.pngGodotThe Peyote God awaits 15:20, 28 September 2011 (UTC)
I was referring to the author being okay with moving it. TyTy 15:21, 28 September 2011 (UTC)
My bad. :-)Pink mowse.pngGodotThe Peyote God awaits 15:23, 28 September 2011 (UTC)

Adapting this essay for mainspace[edit]

...should be done. Kthx. Reverend Black Percy (talk) 02:33, 11 December 2016 (UTC)
