Description

Family:Aristolochiaceae Local name(Telugu): Eswari Distribution: Common and gregarious on bushes and hedges in tropical forests of India. Proffusely branched twining herbs, Leaves obovate-oblong, base sub cordate, Flowers 5-6 cm long, pale pinkish green in terminal or axilary racemes; perianth tube inflated below, then contracted to a cylindric neck, then expanded in a limb.limb glabrous , darker than tube and oblong; stamens 6, stigmatic lobes incurved, Fruit a septicidal capsule,4-5 cm long, ribbed. A bitter plant ; Roots used as antidote for snake bite and indigestion. Photographed at Nellore.
