The highly evolved, though very rare, Urban Cheetah relaxes before stalking the homeless

Cheetahs appear to have lived in North America during the Pleistocene epoch. Like cheetahs today, they appear to have been adapted for a running, or cursorial lifestyle.

[edit] Creationism

Creationists love cheetahs, as they confirm all sorts of looniness. Typical creationist trash about cheetahs:

  1. "The cheetah in Africa is an example of an animal in the cat family with very limited variety in the DNA."
    • The cheetah went through a sort of a bottleneck at the end of the last ice age. This caused only ones with some traits to survive, leading to low genetic variety. This is actually a point for evolution.
  2. "Each cheetah looks like an identical twin."
    • Low genetic variety does not translate to looking like an identical twin. In addition, some cheetahs suffer from drastic birth defects such as curved tails. So they obviously don't.[1]
  3. "While most scientists believe that the cheetah evolved, the very oldest cheetah fossils show us an animal that is just about like the cheetahs we know today. This complete lack of evidence for evolution, plus the intelligent specialized features of the cheetah, lead us to the conclusion that the cheetah is a special creation of God."
    • Yes, and those fossils are from over 6,000 years ago.
  4. "The cheetah is a unique variation on the cat theme that shows how God's creativity can take many forms. When we study His creation, we are wise if we remember that, compared to God, we have hardly any imagination. Therefore we could never decide what could be and what could not be."
    • Where to begin.....?[2]

The cheetah is one of God's most wonderful creations. It has semi-retractable claws, which makes it perfect for running. It is an expression of God's beauty and grace. When we look at it, we are reminded that next to God, we have little imagination.

In other words:

I think the cheetah is really cool. It has semi-retractable claws, making it perfect for running. It is beautiful and graceful. I wouldn't have thought of it, therefore, goddidit.
