Fun:Pony
A Pony is the name given to any of several horse breeds with specific conformation and temperament. By definition, ponies measure less or equal to 14.2 hands (hh) (1.47 meters or 58 inches) at the withers. However, the term "pony" can be used in general (or affectionately) for any small horse, regardless of its actual size or breed.
Compared to horses, ponies often exhibit thicker manes, tails and overall coat, as well as proportionally shorter legs, wider barrels, heavier bone, thick necks, and short heads with broad foreheads.
It is not advisable to use ponies as a goat substitute, even in curries.
[edit] Pony in the English language
Pony is an abbreviation of a commonly used bit of rhyming slang that, although originating with the Cockneys, is used throughout much of England. The phrase "pony and trap" is slang for "crap" although this is shortened to simply "pony". As in "see that, that's well pony that is".
A pony is also London slang for twenty-five pounds.
