Help:Poetry
Poetry does not come easily to MediaWiki, since consecutive lines are treated as one.
Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.
becomes:
Twas brillig, and the slithy toves Did gyre and gimble in the wabe: All mimsy were the borogoves, And the mome raths outgrabe.
There are several ways to deal with this:
[edit] 1: Use a blank line between each line
Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.
[edit] 2: Use a colon (:) (or 2, or more) at the beginning of each (or every other) line
- Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
- Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
- All mimsy were the borogoves,
- And the mome raths outgrabe.
[edit] 3: Make each line a paragraph using

Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.
[edit] 4: End each line with a
Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.
[edit] 5: Use

(deprecated)
Twas brillig, and the slithy toves Did gyre and gimble in the wabe: All mimsy were the borogoves, And the mome raths outgrabe.
[edit] Uneven lines:
If you want uneven lines use or colon(s) instead of spaces at the start of each line you want indenting:
Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.
[edit] Verses
To make breaks between verses use as many : as required (note the colon at the beginning)
[edit] Formatting
You can, of course use
or any other additional formatting you desire.
Look at this page in edit to see what's been done.
There is an extension that does the job, I believe, but we haven't got it.
