Hungary
Hungary is a country in Central Europe and Its capital is Budapest.[1]
Hungary was once, with Austria, one of the most ethnically divided nations on earth, the Austro-Hungarian Empire and a former Communist state with a strong tourism trade.
Hungary's most famous exports are its inventions (did you know that contraband is a Hungarian invention?), its Nobel prize winners, and its dirty words.
The Hungarian language (Magyar) is unrelated to almost any other European language (except for Finnish and Estonian, which are distantly related). Hungary is the only European nation where a person's name has the order of family name first followed by given name(s). So, a person named "John Smith" in other Western countries would be named "Smith John" in Hungary.
[edit] Politics
[edit] Major parties
Fidesz: (Fiatal Demokrata Szövetség - Young Democrat's Alliance) Originally was a liberal party, was one of the parties at the End Of Communism. After a strong defeat at the elections of 1994, they started to move to the right. In 1998 they won the elections and they became conservatives, but these days they didn't go nuts like later. After losing two elections, the party became more aggressive, radical, and corrupt, not to mention they allied a non-secular party, KDNP (Kereresztény Demokrata Néppárt - Christian Democratic People's Party, you can guess what kind of party is it), where their so hated educational minister, Rózsa Hoffmann came. After winning the elections in 2010, the party had won an overwhelming majority and running amok while ruining the economy, education, health care system, etc. in the name of rebellion against the alliance of the evil bankers. Actually they lead the country into a recession, usually they're getting criticized for ruining the democracy (Viktatúra) by censorship, controlling the media, taking away the chance from others, and not giving shit about the Jobbik's action except once (to win their voters?). Not to mention they jumped in the Trianon and the Horthy-cult bandwagon (originally they were against it).
Interestingly Fidesz has "birthers" among their haters. An urban legend says Viktor Orbán is a Roma (in some far-right version he's also Jewish) and his original name is Viktor Orsós. The claimers trying to defend the statement by some horrible photos, one with terrible lighting (made his skin look darker, racists claims Roma people have darker skin), one with an ugly moustache (stereotype). The problem is that his father and grandfather also was Orbán from the birth, but the "birthers" can explain it. But never mind the ruined economy, the bad taxation system, and other rational reasons; he's bad because he's a Roma, and Hungary is called Hungary, not Gypsyland.
MSZP: (Magyar Szocialista Párt - Hungarian Socialist Party) A leftover from the old communist party, without any communism, Fidesz' long life nemesis. As the name suggest, it's a socialist party, with strong sense for human rights. They won elections in 1994, 2002, 2006; the latter were infamous for the Speech of Öszöd and for the party's attempt to privatize the health care system and make it like in the USA. Because of these they lost a lot of their popularity, which made them to only get a small portion in the parliament instead of the usual 40-50%. After learning from the past (e.g. investing too much money into the social security system instead of jobs), the Fidesz' bad economic policy, and getting rid of Ferenc Gyurcsány, they regained some percent in recent polls.
Jobbik: (Jobbik Magyarországért Mozgalom - For the Right Way of Hungary Movement) A "national radical" party, very infamous for their voters' (and some of their leading politicians') racism and anti-Semitism. Sporting with conservative morals and third positionist economic politics, they're basically national socialists, but with a few sane members (they may have departed due to the racist controversies). While trying to get rid of the racist, anti-Semitic, and (neo)Nazi titles, their close-to-party groups (Magyar Gárda, Betyársereg, and so on) shows it differently, Metapedia also likes them and labels them as the only non-Jewish party. Even worse than Metapedia, Kuruc.info is seems to being close to the party, which is a very racist and anti-Semitic news website that seems like it's being edited by kindergarteners from their texts and caricatures (usually some non-Nazi politician's face being photoshopped on a Jew's face). Type "Jobbik Nazi" for more information about their controversies.
LMP: (Lehet Más a Politika - Politics Can be Different (no, they can't - editor's note)) The Anti-Hero of the Hungarian Politics. By mixing both liberals and conservatives in their party, they rallied against populism and demagogy, but at the same time they became one of the most populist and demagogic parties.
DK: (Demokratikus Koalíció - Democratic Coalition) Party led by the former prime minister and current scapegoat for everything (alongside with Gordon Bajnai by Fidesz) Ferenc Gyurcsány. Not so popular, but seems to being a good alternative to the other left-party, MSZP. Famous for criticizing desecularisation of Hungary.
