John Joseph Jay is the owner of the blog Summer Patriot, Winter Soldier. He has made statements which some have taken as advocating the murder of Muslims and Liberals.[1]

Comments on Muslims[edit]

Jay caused controversy when he posted a comment on Pamela Geller's blog containing the following passages:

they wage war on us, so we kill them, and we kill them in sufficient number and with sufficient purpose and zeal that it causes them to stop killing us, and then we should kill them a little bit more, just to drive the point home. by this i mean.--

our governments should not only declare war on "terrorism," but on the states and societies that support it. we should declare war on iran, syria, egypt and saudi arabia, as well as libya and the sudan and somalia, and we should kill people by the scores. no science. no precision bombing. no shock and awe designed to "impress" and send "signals," but old fashion war with wholesale slaughter including indiscriminate death of innocents and babes. down to the last muslim, if necessary.[2]

Jay was criticised for this post and responded by writing a lengthy essay stating that Islamic law does not forbid the killing of non-Muslims; "whatever high toned and high brow-ed notions you may adhere to regarding your treatment of your fellow human beings, and respect for their lives, those notions will accord you nothing in the eyes islam, and nothing in the eyes of a muslim", he wrote.[3]

Comments on the left[edit]

At one point, on his own blog, Jay made the following remarks:

friends, if you wish to retain and preserve individual virtue, you are going to have to kill in order to do so.

if we are to excise the ruling class, it will be with violence. they used violence to attain their privilege, they use it nakedly in the form of the s.i.e.u. and black panther thugs in elective politics to maintain it, they contemplate relocation camps to preserve it, and they will violently resist and suppress any and all efforts to be removed from their privilege.

buy guns. buy ammo. be jealous of your liberties. and, understand, you are going to have to kill folks, your uncles, your sons and daughters, to preserve those liberties.[4]

Jay responded to criticism of these remarks by stating that his left-of-centre detractors support "the carving of live children upon presentment of the crown at the opening to the birth canal, which amounts to the killing of millions every year." "is that not murder?", he asks.[5] No, Jay. No it's not. The vast majority of abortions don't even involve that.

Relationship with Stop the Islamisation of America[edit]

Conflicting statements have been made about Jay's involvement with SIOA. Daily Kos described him as a "SIOA co-founder", on the basis that alongside Pamela Geller, Robert Spencer, Anders Gravers and Richard Davis he co-founded the American Freedom Defense Initiative, which "seems to be the umbrella group that operates the more familiarly known SIOA".[1]

Jay responded by stating that "i was not and am not either a founder or a co-founder of s.i.o.a., that sort of thing being entirely beyond my reach. and i am not an officer or employee or even a member of s.i.o.a, though i am an enthusiastic proponent and supporter of its actions and goals."[3] However, Spencer, in summarising Jay's post, referred to him as a member of the SIOA board.[6]
