Lipids are a family of compounds that include fats, phospholipids and steroids, that are insoluble in water. They are a very important component of cell membranes, cell signalling and energy storage (as fat).
This word is sometimes used in advertising to avoid the word "fats", in the (probably accurate) belief that a beauty product's target audience will have failed school science.
