A mouflon is a super-rare breed of sheep found only on Sardinia, Corsica, and Cyprus, that was cloned in 2001.[1]

[edit] Status

The mouflon is a super-endangered species and is one of six species of wild sheep. A small herd of mouflon is believed to live in the area of Chester Township, Geauga County, Ohio.

[edit] Cloning

In 2001, the mouflon was cloned as part of a program to help protect endangered species. The female lamb was produced by scientists in Italy using a technique pioneered in Dolly the sheep's cloning. Many scientists believe cloning may be necessary to save endangered species, as a last resort.
