Qur'an 76:1[edit]

Has there come upon man a period of time when he was nothing to be mentioned?

Qur'an 76:1 Notes[edit]

This is a poetic way to ask if there was a time when humans didn't exist.

Qur'an 76:2[edit]

We created man from a liquid mixture, to test him; and We made him hearing and seeing.

Qur'an 76:2 Notes[edit]

Huh? Humanity emerged from other mammals which emerged from non mammalian species which goes all the way back to the first single cell organisms. In a way, there is a little truth to this as this likely happened IN water, but nothing to do with liquid mitures.

Qur'an 76:3[edit]

We guided him to the way, be he appreciative or unappreciative.

Qur'an 76:3 Notes[edit]

No one guided early humans. They were on their own.

Qur'an 76:4[edit]

We have prepared for the faithless chains, and yokes, and a Searing Fire.

Qur'an 76:4 Notes[edit]

Only the fourth verse and we are being threatened with hell.

Qur'an 76:5[edit]

But the righteous will drink from a cup whose mixture is aroma.

Qur'an 76:5 Notes[edit]

Unless you believe this whole nonsense book in which case...REWARD!

Qur'an 76:6[edit]

A spring from which the servants of God will drink, making it gush abundantly.

Qur'an 76:6 Notes[edit]

The reward happens to be something that would appeal to the people in and around the time of Muhammed.

Qur'an 76:7[edit]

They fulfill their vows, and dread a Day whose ill is widespread.

Qur'an 76:7 Notes[edit]

Threatened again with judgement day. You think, considering how many times we are threatened by judgement day in this book, there would be a shred of evidence for its coming.

Qur'an 76:8[edit]

And they feed, for the love of Him, the poor, and the orphan, and the captive.

Qur'an 76:8 Notes[edit]

Oh yeah, Allah is great because, despite the general level of human misery on this Earth, a few orphans are thrown crumbs. What magnificent generosity.

Qur'an 76:9[edit]

“We only feed you for the sake of God. We want from you neither compensation, nor gratitude.

Qur'an 76:9 Notes[edit]

And all out of the goodness of their heart.

Qur'an 76:10[edit]

We dread from our Lord a frowning grim Day.”

Qur'an 76:10 Notes[edit]

Oh noez! JUDGEMENT DAY!! ARGH!

Qur'an 76:11[edit]

So God will protect them from the ills of that Day, and will grant them radiance and joy.

Qur'an 76:11 Notes[edit]

Will Allah protect us from the judgement day that he inflicts on us (for no rational reason)?

Qur'an 76:12[edit]

And will reward them for their patience with a Garden and silk.

Qur'an 76:12 Notes[edit]

Allah expects an insane amount of patience.

Qur'an 76:13[edit]

Reclining therein on the thrones; experiencing therein neither sun, nor frost.

Qur'an 76:13 Notes[edit]

Heaven sure sounds nice.

Qur'an 76:14[edit]

Its shade hovering over them, and its fruit brought low within reach.

Qur'an 76:14 Notes[edit]

So many luxury features.

Qur'an 76:15[edit]

Passing around them are vessels of silver, and cups of crystal.

Qur'an 76:15 Notes[edit]

Shiny cups!

Qur'an 76:16[edit]

Crystal of silver—they measured them exactly.

Qur'an 76:16 Notes[edit]

Wow...perfectly symmetrical!

Qur'an 76:17[edit]

They will be served therein with a cup whose flavor is Zanjabeel.

Qur'an 76:17 Notes[edit]

Oh wow...flavoured with things that appeal to people around and in the time of muhammed!

Qur'an 76:18[edit]

A spring therein named Salsabeel.

Qur'an 76:18 Notes[edit]

Wow...fountains of water for a people for which water is hard to find. Surprise no?

Qur'an 76:19[edit]

Passing among them are eternalized youths. If you see them, you would think them sprinkled pearls.

Qur'an 76:19 Notes[edit]

Wow!

Qur'an 76:20[edit]

Wherever you look, you see bliss, and a vast kingdom.

Qur'an 76:20 Notes[edit]

sounds appealing...and all I have to do is buy all of the nonsense in this book?

Qur'an 76:21[edit]

Upon them are garments of green silk, and satin. And they will be adorned with bracelets of silver. And their Lord will offer them a pure drink.

Qur'an 76:21 Notes[edit]

Hmm...this is starting to sound like sexual objectification.

Qur'an 76:22[edit]

“This is a reward for you. Your efforts are well appreciated.”

Qur'an 76:22 Notes[edit]

An enternity of bliss for believing nonsense...what a deal!

Qur'an 76:23[edit]

It is We who sent down the Quran upon you—a gradual revelation.

Qur'an 76:23 Notes[edit]

This is a way of explaining why we first had the old testament, then a rather different new testament and now a very different Quran.

Qur'an 76:24[edit]

So be patient for the decision of your Lord, and do not obey the sinner or the blasphemer among them.

Qur'an 76:24 Notes[edit]

Why?

Qur'an 76:25[edit]

And mention the Name of your Lord, morning and evening.

Qur'an 76:25 Notes[edit]

Why?

Qur'an 76:26[edit]

And for part of the night, prostrate yourself to Him, and glorify Him long into the night.

Qur'an 76:26 Notes[edit]

Explain why an all powerful God needs me to grovel to him

Qur'an 76:27[edit]

As for these: they love the fleeting life, and leave behind a Heavy Day.

Qur'an 76:27 Notes[edit]

Those who don't believe this nonsense are bad.

Qur'an 76:28[edit]

We created them, and strengthened their frame; and whenever We will, We can replace them with others like them.

Qur'an 76:28 Notes[edit]

More bad things about non-belivers.

Qur'an 76:29[edit]

This is a reminder; so whoever wills, let him take a path to his Lord.

Qur'an 76:29 Notes[edit]

Like...the millionth reminder.

Qur'an 76:30[edit]

Yet you cannot will, unless God wills. God is Knowing and Wise.

Qur'an 76:30 Notes[edit]

Is he?

Qur'an 76:31[edit]

He admits into His mercy whomever He wills. But as for the wrongdoers, He has prepared for them a painful punishment.

Qur'an 76:31 Notes[edit]

How can he be merciful if he gives out painful punishment?
