RationalWiki talk:Special Recruitment Project

It is an interesting idea and similar to something I have sort of done which is to go to forums and ask for input, and occasionally talk to specific people. I have been trying to use the new article of the weak as an ice breaker. Saying here is something we need input in from smart people. But you are proposing something slightly different, time consuming, but more effective if people put in the effort. You are emphasizing becoming part of the community first right? Then contacting people you have met? What about dropping links back to RW when you are discussing something. Like if you bring up Poe's Law or Sham quantum physics, you can link back to RW articles. tmtoulouse nettle 01:51, 12 August 2008 (EDT)

  • IMHO the community thing is a way to build bona fides. I guess I have to admit I kinda like the cloak'n'dagger aspect of it too, but the idea of becoming part of these communities has the potential to bring together parts of the skeptic movement that don't have a big aggregator spot like scienceblogs.com or something like that. What can I say -- I'd like to teach the world to snark in perfect cacophony. RWSpetsnaz 01:58, 12 August 2008 (EDT)
Absolutely, and dear god you are using the TK asterisk! The one thing I like about this is it actually gives me an excuse to stop being just a lurker and to start participating. I read and follow many forums, but haven't ever had a reason to jump in per say. Though internet communities are a time sink :). tmtoulouse nettle 02:00, 12 August 2008 (EDT)
No, they're a gravity well. <font=""; face="Comic Sans MS">Jellyfish! There are sliding doors, and there are secret doors 02:01, 12 August 2008 (EDT)
No shit. You ever looked something up on TVTropes.org? You start by looking up the definition of "Manic Pixie Dream Girl" and an hour later you're reading about inappropriate Slap Slap Kiss dynamics on Ben 10, marveling about the sheer size of the shoehorn needed to retcon Kevin Levin into a good guy. I know! It's ridiculous! ^_^ <font=""; face="Comic Sans MS">Jellyfish! There are sliding doors, and there are secret doors 02:10, 12 August 2008 (EDT)
  • Heh. Dopey TK isn't the only asterisk-indenter around here. I've always felt that naked colons just don't get readability across like a visible start character. RWSpetsnaz 02:06, 12 August 2008 (EDT)

Ohhh, Quatloos! I love that place. tmtoulouse nettle 02:03, 12 August 2008 (EDT)

So few people here seem to share my fascination with tax protesters. tmtoulouse nettle 02:04, 12 August 2008 (EDT)
  • I think a Demotivator is required. A clown, rampant, menaced with a nail gun, azure. The inscription reads "Stupid. So much dumb, so few power tools." RWSpetsnaz 02:06, 12 August 2008 (EDT)

Maybe I was wrong about this informal thing[edit]

I'm going to set up a group. Any thoughts on Google groups vs. Yahoo? RWSpetsnaz 17:53, 12 August 2008 (EDT)

I hate yahoo and there is a neat synergy (wonk word!) with SDG at CP. tmtoulouse nettle 18:05, 12 August 2008 (EDT)
