From RWW[edit]

User:sterile wrote this on RWW and i think it's worth preserving:

First wave: (by invitation only) largely precipitated by the Guardian article of CP, the creation on RW1; RationalWiki was a pain in the ass to log into focused on CP, when it was a page of pages (there is no cabal), ending in the Night of the Blunt Knives; silliniess at CP, such as the doughnut affair, Icewedge edits to CP and Richard at CP; it sounds all glorious, but it really didn't last that long.

Second wave: (the initial public RW) Creepy E.Wig conversations and the first real trolling by HeartOfGold; the LATimes article; the countdown to the 2008 election; PalMD and Caius around but eventually faded away to their own blogs, and the WIGOs and Article of the Weak stuff; forums were a separate page with the separate cabal and cabal within cabal forums; side-by-sides were common (Expelled: Leader's Guide); CP was still the real focus (click-bots, Lenski affair, lots of focus on TK; unearthing their forums and e-mails), although there were a lot of general skepticism articles, honest; lots of user templates; the Constitutional Convention (that went nowhere); the Great Pissing Contents (which was a huge deal at the time); probably the height of the era of Human; William Demski's legal threat; RationalBlogs; the vandal bin (?) it probably ends with the Colbert influx; really the most fun the wiki ever was (no offense), nobody really knew what they were doing (but that was the fun of it)

Third wave: the formalization and branding stuff; moving from .com to .org (right?) the forums went mothballed in favor of the Saloon Bar (maybe earlier); the new logo; more looking past CP (although there was a lot of post-CP initially, honest; it was Trent's intent); focus on other projects (ASK, WikiSynergy); eventually Facebook page comes on-line and Marcus becomes a problem in the eyes of lots; current form of Main is pretty much set; height of 'crats and sysops (don't remember when that started) and the coup; the great blackout for a month; the formation of the foundation; Loya Jira; Susan dies, and TK over at CP dies; definite ending in May 2011 because you all couldn't figure out how to 'crat me (according to many), although I still think the inability to figure out what to do with Marcus (or diffrences thereby) is the real reason May happened. Fourth wave: (post-uber HCM) I suppose the editors are a big part of this, but it's also the mods and the reshuffling of "power" (whatever that means), which I still think led to the alienation of lots, ergo oldtimers leave like Elves going into the west; bizarro trolls (and troll-like-ness); promise of podcasting and other forms of social media.

There are definitely things in the wrong place, but that's what I remember of it. Actually, it is event driven except perhaps between the second and third waves (Blunt Knives & May "throw out the 'crats"-fest). Sterile 05:33, 25 March 2012 (UTC)

The not-rewrite project[edit]

Pages that I stare at with the incomprehension of the illiterate in order to not-rewrite this timeline:

-SolPyre (talk) 23:42, 5 December 2015 (UTC)

What do you want to know of the Loya Jirga, aka Lemon Jalopies? As the former historian of RationalWiki over at RWW, I can help answer what you have questions on. Gooniepunk (talk) 09:27, 8 December 2015 (UTC)
I'm too tired to ask more than one (looks like I can't count to one) question right now. How did the Loya_Jirga end? What happened with the last LJ election that doesn't seem to have happened? Did the 2011 restructing end the office or was it some other 2011 thing? I'll leave larger questions about 2011 for a time when i'm more awake. SolPyre (talk) 09:33, 8 December 2015 (UTC)
By the way I get most of what I see on the listed pages, I was just amusing myself with self deprecation. The pages are listed mostly for easy access. SolPyre (talk) 09:40, 8 December 2015 (UTC)
The Lemon Jalopies was, essentially, created in response to persistent trolling by MarcusCicero and inability of the mob to come to a consensus on anything about how to deal with the situation. As a precursor to a system of moderation, TheoryOfPractice [Forum:Loya_Jirga proposed] a rudimentary system to try and clamp down on all the HCMs that were being caused by MarcusCicero and his supporters. From that, the idea of the Lemon Jalopies came into being. However, the power granted to the Lemon Jalopies was nowhere near what is granted to the moderators these days; sysoprevoke, for example, did not exist. Ultimately, the only things the Lemon Jalopies ever did were to vandalbin MarcusCicero and grant users the ability to remove trollish content from their talkpage. Beyond that, nothing ever came from the Lemon Jalopies and it was long defunct before the events on May, 2011 occurred. Gooniepunk (talk) 09:55, 8 December 2015 (UTC)
Any particular point at which LJ became defunct that I could add to time line? What was the reason behind Totnesmartin's resignation (if it was irl stuff then its not relevant)? Could you link me to the page where the LJs vbed MC (if you remember anything about where it is, I'm not asking you to do any grunt work finding it)? Also, any advice on how to (or wether to) indicate to the reader that the various accounts AH has had are all one person? That's all for now thanks for your help. SolPyre (talk) 21:48, 8 December 2015 (UTC)
The Lemon Jalopies, basically, just petered out; once they vandal-binned MC and made the rule about removing vile trolling on userpages, they gave themselves a pat on the back and went back to being symbolic only. I can't for the life of me remember why Totnesmartin resigned, and I seem to think the decisions they passed were passed via e-mail discussion (though I could be wrong, you may want to check the Lemon Jalopies's pages to be sure). Gooniepunk (talk) 02:51, 9 December 2015 (UTC)
My understanding is somebody attempted to get the Jirga running again for May 2011 and it just caused more fighting. --"Paravant" Talk & Contribs 03:29, 9 December 2015 (UTC)
Yes someone did. They started an election but few other people looked interested. SolPyre (talk) 03:49, 9 December 2015 (UTC)
The by-election his resignation caused explains it with a link to a deleted saloon bar revision, thats all I could find. (about Totnesmartin). SolPyre (talk) 03:49, 9 December 2015 (UTC)
Just wondering; why "Loya Jirga"? Was there actually anything Jamaican about this dispute-resolving taskforce? 142.124.55.236 (talk) 02:55, 9 December 42015 AQD (UTC)
IIRC, the answer lies in here somewhere. Gooniepunk (talk) 03:24, 9 December 2015 (UTC)

More pages I'm keeping here for easy reference:

MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I FOUND IT!! I FINALLY FOUND IT!!! THE SECRETS OF MAY 2011 SHALL EVADE ME NO LONGER!!!!

Srsy why the fuck did it take me so long to realize that the RWW archives are a gold mine? SolPyre (talk) 23:43, 9 December 2015 (UTC)

May 2011 - Dec 2013?[edit]

Did nothing really happen for two and half years? ħumanUser talk:Human 18:37, 29 December 2015 (UTC)

Is this...[edit]

The first mention of our rather odd policy of keeping talkpages for deleted articles? If it is it's probably worth a mention. Christopher (talk) 08:25, 30 May 2017 (UTC)

Could be. Stabby's not officially LANCB'd (AFAIK); as such, he may even be able to recall (corroboratively) if this post of his was indeed the first mention of said policy. Good find, either way. Th hug.gif Reverend Black Percy (talk) 08:36, 30 May 2017 (UTC)
The way it's phrased does make it seem like a suggestion but the lack of responses indicates it probably isn't the post that got it added into the community standards or anything else official. Given how long ago stabby made his last edit, I think it's safe to conclude he's LANCB. Christopher (talk) 09:08, 30 May 2017 (UTC)
That he's not currently around is a safe bet; but LANCB is different. Especially the "ANCB" part. All we know is that he's "L". Poke his talkpage — he just might reply, one day or the other. Reverend Black Percy (talk) 09:22, 30 May 2017 (UTC)
