My eyes always seem to register her name as "MergelWikipedia", which is weird, because geology is quite down my list of interests.--ZooGuard (talk) 19:59, 17 September 2012 (UTC)

That's okay. Personally I can't see a pack of Pom bears without wondering what sexual hi-jinks they're getting up to in the packet.--Stunteddwarf Jabba de Chops 20:57, 17 September 2012 (UTC)

I think we're being a little too harsh[edit]

In this article and here. Merkel's economic policy and the earlier Hartz reforms remind me of the Third Way-ish policies taken by our Liberal Party in the 90s: slightly shave off parts of the welfare system in favour of market flexibility and lower unemployment. While it's going to generate higher poverty in the long-term, the Gini is (for now) still in the "sweet spot" of .20-.30. She's not smashing it with a Thatcher-certified sledgehammer.

I disagree with her Christian democratic social views and her handling of the Eurozone crisis has left much to be desired, but she's moderated herself significantly as Chancellor. Merkel isn't Satan, and we need to reflect that. Osaka Sun (talk) 21:16, 15 May 2013 (UTC)

Reform the Merkel[edit]

I think we need a cleanup of her article so it flows better, without looking too much like an encyclopedia. See the articles on Tony Blair, Stephen Harper, Margaret Thatcher, and Ronald Reagan? We could restructure Angela Merkel that way, while explaining her political leanings (the "Wait 'till it becomes popular ebfore you voice opinion" part), her actual track record as Chancellor, her treatment of her rivals, and exactly how much influence (if at all) she has over Europe. yeah, i just read my draft again, and i gotta admit it is a clunky read at the end. the whole 2nd half could take a good rewrite, i think the first half is informative and fluent enough, though i shoulda insert a couple of links and sources.
as for the harshness of the wording and the ultimate judgment her economic policies deserve, i'm also open to moderation here. true, she ain't no maggie thatcher who presided of the whole scale deindustrialisation of GB. elsewhere i have written up a richly sourced passage that explains the nature and the consequences of merkel's and gerhard schröder's (whose footsteps she's pretty much following) economic & labour policies on germany and the eurozone...think it's in the main germany article or summat.
one thing i'd like to (have) underscore(d) even more in the article is how well she has the german media in her pocket, which when you live in germany is something to behold. with respect to the handling of the eurocrisis the nationalism is so masterfully played up when necessary, she is practically exempt from any criticism. anyway, i try to get around to do it in the next couple of weeks. i prolly could use some hints with regards to dropping some RW-style humour in the article. Make an article please[edit]

Why don't we have an article here? Even if it was messy, that's better than nothing.

Like, even if it said "Angela Merkel is the de facto Valkerie of the Holy Roman Empire and fuhrer of the EU. She's also afraid of dogs and is arguably the most powerful woman in the city of Earth," that would be more informative than nothing at all. We can probably do better than that even. I presume we can at least do as well as a simple statement and analysis of her leadership, politics, status, and policies.— Unsigned, by: 73.25.110.186 / talk / contribs 05:53, 19 May 2017 (UTC)

It's a wiki, nothing's stopping you. Christopher (talk) 14:20, 19 May 2017 (UTC)

Putin enabler[edit]

The article needs a section on Merkel's friendship with Putin and her policies regarding the hooking of Germany on Russian natural resources, which continued after the Crimea/Donbass invasion and eventually ended up financing the full-scale war. She never admitted to being wrong about it. --96.224.88.47 (talk) 02:02, 27 May 2022 (UTC)
