Relevant mention[edit]

should be made of This novel 82.44.143.26 (talk) 16:10, 31 July 2017 (UTC)

I fail to see how the novel The Unbearable Lightness of Being is relevant to this article. Please, could you explain how it is so? From what I have read at its Wikipedia entry, it has more to do with existentialism, and challenges the idea of eternal recurrenceWikipedia. --Jagoe (talk) 13:56, 1 August 2017 (UTC)
Weak pun/wordplay naturally. 82.44.143.26 (talk) 16:37, 1 August 2017 (UTC)
Sorry. LOL. I think I've had too much enlightenment for today. --Jagoe (talk) 16:44, 1 August 2017 (UTC)
Better than ... what #is# the antonym of 'enlightenment'? 82.44.143.26 (talk) 17:57, 1 August 2017 (UTC)
Looking for a servicable opposite to the dictionary definition of the term 'enlightened' (i.e. "freed from ignorance and misinformation" + "based on full comprehension of the problems involved"), the irony knows no limitsWikipedia. Reverend Black Percy (talk) 22:55, 1 August 2017 (UTC)
Endarkenment or enocclusionism? Or possibly something derived from malocclusion? 82.44.143.26 (talk) 14:41, 4 August 2017 (UTC)
According to thesaurus.com, direct antonyms for enlightenment include "ignorance" and "stupidity". Weaker antonyms are "bewilderment", "confusion", "destruction" and "puzzlement". Personally, I would also suggest "regression" and "disenlightenment" (from Urban Dictionary). —Jagoe (talk) 10:31, 30 December 2018 (UTC)

"Information beings"[edit]

The following is still, I think, too half-baked to add to the article, but I'll put it here for now. Thoughts?

A rather different science-fiction conceptualization of "light beings," which uses the word "light" in a more metaphorical sense, can be fun to consider. Spiritual teachings often include ideas which relate light to consciousness. As for consciousness, in turn both spiritual and non-spiritual philosophies sometimes relate it to information – information patterns, information theory, etc. For example, the metaphysics of Michael Topper includes a dramatic view of good super-human "light beings" of radiant altruistic consciousness and evil super-human "light eaters" who seek to shape and constrain other consciousnesses to serve them, for example by making them believe in bullshit and extracting obedience through manipulation. Science fiction sometimes, usually at odds with spiritual teachings, includes super-human minds consisting of information structures, as in artificial general intelligences. The associative trail leading from light, to consciousness, to information, could possibly make "light beings" out of such futuristic minds, though most spiritualists would not accept such a view of the future of "spiritual evolution" which beings of light are often taken to represent. Instead, everything transhumanist tends to be associated with the most unloving forces of darkness.
