[edit] Gitmo

I'm not sure how much Gitmo is related to the Orwellian idea behind this. 1984 concerns itself specifically with a surveillance society. Extralegal detention is a related phenomenon in that it is a method of social control, but intrusive surveillance is not necessary for detention and vice versa. Would there be any objections to moving the Gitmo material to a larger article on arbitrary detention and authoritarianism?--MountainTiger 13:20, 25 July 2007 (CDT)

If memory serves me well it was a feature of 1984 so it could stay although it was legal -they made it so. Suggest you start the detention article (you'll do much better than I have I'm sure) & stick in links to each other? Keepthe faith 13:28, 25 July 2007 (CDT)

[edit] It just me...

Or does this sound like the name of the next CP Sysop. Locke Random 13:36, 25 July 2007 (CDT)

I meant Big Brother, but your version is equally amusing. Locke Random 13:37, 25 July 2007 (CDT)

[edit] How come

Nobody has come up with the idea of "Big Sister"? 171.33.197.73 (talk) 16:35, 4 September 2013 (UTC)

[edit] Snark

You know, I'm really tempted to add some snark about the viewer of the tv show. Should I?

[edit] The issue

... is not the CCTV but in the interpreting of the vast quantities of information and non-information that it creates - some of which will only 'make sense' much later. (There is an advert in The Times in the late 1930s: a lecture to be given to The Hellenic Society by one J E.... Powell). 82.44.143.26 (talk) 15:47, 27 February 2015 (UTC)
