Talk:Cat
Shouldn't this glorious work of art be living out its golden years in "fun"? I'm not sure the "two young earths" joke is enough to keep it anywhere near "mission"... human

- Heh! Of course it should. I'm surprised it's lasted this long. SusanPurrrrrrr 10:56, 24 January 2008 (EST)

[edit] cover story nomination
Somehow, I don't think so :(. However, let's move it to "fun" and nominate it for "best of amusement", so at least it will turn up in "featured content" from time to time. human

I say 'No'. Funny, sure, but not cover story material. DogP 21:13, 2 April 2008 (EDT)
- Here's an idea - it can be in "best of fun" without actually being moved there. Howzat? ħuman

I say "Yes." I am a cat lover, and think this article is one of the best on the whole wiki. It's funny, has good photos, is well made, and is lengthy but not to length. - ConservapediaUndergroundResistor

[edit] Relocate to funspace
Would anyone object terribly if I moved this to the funspace? The article's good, but it's way off mission; it belongs in the funspace.
Radioactive Misanthrope 22:53, 3 January 2009 (EST)
- I think many might... how about at least waiting a few days for comments? I see your point, but it's still a "pet" article, and as on-mission as goat - try moving that to fun! ħuman
23:09, 3 January 2009 (EST)
- Needs stuff about LOLcats, otherwise it could stay. - User
23:10, 3 January 2009 (EST)
- I understand, but we have a goat article in the mainspace because the goat is our mascot. Or haven't you ever heard of the Shiny Golden Rule of Mascot Exception?
Radioactive Misanthrope 00:17, 4 January 2009 (EST)
- Well, that's the problem, the cat is a form of fifth column tertiary mascot for many users. At least it links to felidae now, so it's SCIENSE! ħuman
00:21, 4 January 2009 (EST)
- Well, I'll leave it alone then. As resident tight-ass, though, I would still like to go on record as opposing this being in the mainspace.

Someone's gotta say this. Not mission! Delete now.
ГенгисIs the Pope a Catholic? 20:21, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
- Considering that cats were the intelligent hand behind human evolution (producing slaves to feed, house, and pet them), how can you say it's not on-mission? Also, see all the above discussions about moving it to fun, etc. ħuman
20:36, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
- Cats are not even fun. They are evil.

[edit] dog?
I see that there has been some discussion of moving this article from the mainspace or deleting it altogether. Are there any objections to me creating an article for "dog?" Right now dog simply redirects to cat. This bugs me for some reason. I don't wanna mess with, however, it if it's just going to get deleted for not being "on mission" or whatever. - And that, my friend, is the problem with this place. I can almost understand people not getting a HeartofGold, a PalMD or a Bohdan reset, but if CUR is our standard for "way back in the day," I think that says something about institutional memory, and our lack of it. P-Foster (talk) 00:50, 14 April 2010 (UTC)
- Yeah, that sucks I guess...I'll do some research...so is "dog" in or out or what? PACODOGwoof, bitches 00:54, 14 April 2010 (UTC)
- If you can create something on-mission for dog, or even something that's for funspace for dog, then we will have a dog article. The Spikey Punk I'm punking my punk! 01:13, 14 April 2010 (UTC)

- Ain't gonna happen. If your dog article kicks ass, maybe it can be moved to mainspace? ħuman

- Blasphemy! Next you'll be asking to move Goat and then where will we all be? Eh? Eh? It's a slippery slope that'll lead to no good coming from it, you mark my words. Totnesmartin (talk) 09:41, 8 May 2010 (UTC)
- Trying to make "dog" on-mission enough to be mainspace is way too much pressure for me to handle alone. If anyone out there is bored enough to improve or critique my sandbox article please feel free. PACODOGwoof, bitches 07:34, 9 May 2010 (UTC)
- My advice is not to try too hard to make "dog" on-mission. "Cat" isn't really on-mission - it's just one of the few exceptions kept in mainspace because of its longstanding popularity/status. Can't promise the same would happen with dog, so it might have to start in funspace, but would probably be better as a light-hearted off-mission piece than something with a load of scientific stuff shoehorned in just to justify mainspace placement. During the CUR era, we went through this dance with felidae - yoinked about around various namespaces, deleted & recreated numerous times, gruelling edit wars. Users won't want to go down that road again. ωεαşεζόίď

[edit] Domestication
Surely it was #cats# who domesticated #humans# not the other way round?
82.198.250.71 (talk) 16:59, 21 December 2010 (UTC)
- You'll find that the article claims that cats decided to let themselves be domesticated which is pretty close to my observations. Jack Hughes (talk) 17:38, 21 December 2010 (UTC)
- Does the mere fact that they live amongst humans and tolerate them make them domesticated?--BobSpring is sprung! 17:51, 21 December 2010 (UTC)
- I have long noted that a great many people who live with cats will say they are "owned by a cat". The proportion of people who live with dogs that say they are "owned by a dog" is far smaller.
- And remember, in ancient Egypt, cats were worshipped as gods. They have never forgotten this. MDB (talk) 17:57, 21 December 2010 (UTC)

- If you call a dog by name, it's response will be "yes sir! yes sir! what can I do for you, sir?!"
- If you call a cat by name, if you get a response, it will be, "have your people call my people and I'll get back to you later." MDB (talk) 19:18, 21 December 2010 (UTC)
