[edit] Adoption

Would the childfree movement include people who advocate adoption instead of childbirth? Fallacy (talk) 15:39, 1 November 2011 (UTC)

Probably not, since the arguments listed here are that *any* child seems to be a crush on our personal liberties, freedoms and out right souls. --Pink mowse.pngGodotGet over it!. 17:01, 1 November 2011 (UTC)
I'm not convinced it's an accurate representation of the views of the people in the movement, but all I really know is what I read here, so eh. Fallacy (talk) 21:54, 1 November 2011 (UTC)
If you mean adopt for themselves, then no. Childfree people don't want children. They don't want to be parents to anyone. But if you mean just supporting adoption in general, then yes. I post on CF boards and there seems to be a lot of positive thoughts towards adoption and those that do it. However, you might find it interesting that a good percentage of the Voluntary Human Extinction Movement are adoptive parents or are planning to be/open to adoption. Many of VHEM are CF as well, but it's not a requirement to be so.

[edit] Antinatalism

I'm curious as antinatalism. The subject is mentioned briefly and I was tempted to add a section to the page on the to the childfree movement or making a new page for it. Technically the childfree movement is antinatalistic but to the large extent its just because they don't want children. People who deliberately refuse to have children because they believe it would result in the child suffering or for other reasons has resulted in a mess of ideas honorable and just plain insane. The most insane that would qualify easily as Extreme Moonbattery is a very fringe yet horrifying online movement called Efilism. It's goal makes the VHEMT's look more plausible in that followers don't just want human beings to go extinct; followers want ALL life to go extinct to permanently end suffering. Many of the more extreme have advocated suicide and have given responses that essentially amount to genocide, only done as painlessly as possible. As if that makes it any less wrong. What are all your thoughts on this? Is it a subject worthy of dissection on RationalWiki? Old_Schooler (talk) 21:54, 11 November 2013 (UTC)

I think antinatalism could be on a separate page since they're two different things. But they could be connected also, since I assume a lot of antinatalist would also be childfree (But the CF aren't all antinatalist). I think both antinatalism and pronatalism are interesting topics and are worthy of dissection if they're not on here already.

Actually leads to this article. Huh. Bit of a "wha?" moment. Zero (talk) 15:16, 19 February 2014 (UTC)

[edit] Why?

Why are you so cruel to people who do not want to have children for reasons of comfort? Why do you consider this a bad thing? We (at least most of us) to live honestly earned money, with which we pay taxes, do not commit crimes, respect other people's interests and love our parents, brothers and sisters, lovers, friends and pets. Why did you say that we are evil only for what we live for the joy of life and do not want to sacrifice ourselves for the sake of someone or something? Why do you think that if you are willing to endure that children "keeps a person awake at night" and "smell" that all others should too? Why do you think that your values are universal, and all should be required to share them? This is such a new kind of rationality or a new kind of tolerance?— Unsigned, by: 31.23.4.206 / talk / contribs

Congratulations on your lack of maternity/paternity. Enjoy. MarmotHead (talk) 22:22, 14 July 2014 (UTC)
