Limited scope? I'm not a philo major, so my knowledge of this comes from Wiki. But per wiki, ethical altruism is not this extreme. That is it can be this extreme, but it is not defined as lack of view of self. Anyone want to chime in? Pink mowse.pngGodotI live in the Infinite monkey cage 19:47, 19 December 2011 (UTC)

I hung around some philosophy and ethics courses when going for my Associate's degree. I encountered a bit of this in Plato's Republic and through class discussion. What I thought ethical altruism was before I read this page was that working to help others helps yourself in that people are more willing to help you if they see your are a selfless kind of person. If you are inherently selfish and want the most gain, you must help others to get it. If you want to help others, you must help others to get the most gain. To that end, being an altruist is the only consistent (and therefore rational) way to be. Of course, this smells heavily of reciprocal altruism. I chime in because this article is much too small. 76.106.251.87 (talk) 00:37, 22 June 2013 (UTC)
