Talk:Methodism
People want to know the relative size of different Denominations, we need to know which sect is large and influential, which is insignificant. For example round 2010 there were only three Shakers left in the world so Shakers are of historical importance only. So far I haven't even checked if all three are still alive. But Methodists with 70.000.000, now they matter. Proxima Centauri (talk) 16:22, 19 March 2012 (UTC)
- No, they don't. No, we don't. This is pointless off mission trivia. Тyrannosaurs 16:25, 19 March 2012 (UTC)
- Even as a footnote it is pointless. ТyYes? 16:42, 19 March 2012 (UTC)
- I don't see why the a simple fact like the number of a particular denomination is "off-mission trivia". I get the impression you're being rather heavy-handed with PC. Be nice. Lily Inspirate me. 16:48, 19 March 2012 (UTC)

- Ty's following me round the wiki being heavy handed, thanks for noticing. Proxima Centauri (talk) 16:50, 19 March 2012 (UTC)
- Fucking paranoid idiot, at least someone gives a shit enough about your crappy writing to at least try to keep you in check. Did it ever occur to you to only make the 15% of your edits that are useful? ħuman

- And you're wrecking this place with poor writing and bad references. ТyNo 16:55, 19 March 2012 (UTC)

OKAY. 1. This is on-mission to me. As a person who knows shit about the various denominations and what they stand for, I appreciate articles that help to shed light on the question. 2. Ty, you know I love you, but dial it back re: PC. Yeah, she's not the strongest writer we have, but she gets her facts straight and usually writes stuff that just needs a quick bit of editing to get into shape. She works hard for the project and obviously cares about it. P-Foster Talk ""Santorum is the cream rising to the top."" 17:03, 19 March 2012 (UTC)
- I'll buy all that except the "quick bit of editing". Oh, and the "facts straight" part since I just deleted some junk she pasted in with no footnotes. Copyediting PC's regurgitations is one of the hardest jobs on this wiki. If you have any doubt, look at the fossil record at Magdalene laundries. Yeah, I know it's ancient history, but she still writes just as badly as back then, and drags whatever moldy tidbit she just came across on the web all over the wiki. I miss Mei - she was fucking useful! PC isn't. Face it. She's just hard work to clean up after. ħuman

- Actually, at least as far as the religion comments go, her facts are often quite far off. She gives generic slashes and screeds that serve nothing to explain the topic. I get better than anyone, that we don't all write equally well (though to stick my nose right into it, I'm not convinced some people here who are so critical of writing - or rather so quick to complain about other people's writing--, are actually all that great themselves... but whatever), but it's dangerous to start with an obvious point of disliking something, when you go to edit.

[edit] The lead...
Wow, this could use some help, I'd try but some knowledge of the topic would help. Which is why the lead sucks. ħuman

[edit] The edit war
Seems mostly over, but regardless, I had reinserted PC's edits and corrected any grammatical errors/awkwardness (which P-Foster also did, albeit in his own fashion). Archie, you don't need to get your panties in a bunch over everything I do, okay?--Brxbrx 04:06, 20 March 2012 (UTC)

- Bullshit. If Archie hadn't been trying to swing his dick around, you would have let my edits stand because they were fine, just fine.--Brxbrx 04:10, 20 March 2012 (UTC)

[edit] social work and salvation?
So, we don't really say anything about the Methodist theology, which is the single reason a Methodist is a Methodist, and not say, a baptist, but we talk about them going to potlucks? --
Godot What do cats dream about? 05:07, 20 March 2012 (UTC)
- I googled "salvation potluck keillor" "quote methodist keillor", and just "salvation through potluck -army" and came up with nothing about the quote "salvation via potluck" we have. sounds to me like most midwest churches, not just Methodist. Anyone have more on it?
Godot What do cats dream about? 15:49, 20 March 2012 (UTC)
Someone else wrote about salvation by potluck. I suspect it's about the Calvinist idea that god selects who will be saved and we can't change our fate. When I edit an article too many people assume I wrote everything controversial there and I get blamed for too much that I didn't write. Proxima Centauri (talk) 19:15, 20 March 2012 (UTC)
- Look, your prosecution complex is in someways, justified. But if we do not mention your name, no one is claiming you did it. If you have something worth adding, to support one side or the other, go for it. But no one is attacking you here. --

[edit] Wesleyan Stances
Coming from a Wesleyan church, I can tell you that the church I attended lines up with almost none of the stuff listed in the UMC's positions, especially on gay marriage, evolution and gun control. Any other former Wesleyans notice the same, or is that just me? Greatnecro (talk) 19:20, 3 November 2014 (UTC)
