The name of the page[edit]
This page might be better named "Avian Big Bang" or "Bird Big Bang". See here for usage: [1], [2], [3]. Bongolian (talk) 17:06, 15 October 2015 (UTC)
- I think the current title is fine, but I'm afraid I think the article is an almost unreadable mess of text. :/
For starters, what this article desperately needs is a proper introduction that isn't chuckfull of jargon and obscure terminology and that also actually states what this 'intractable problem' is that has paleontologists and molecular scientists in such disagreeance. 142.124.55.236 (talk) 17:19, 15 October 42015 AQD (UTC)- It should at least define what "neornithine" is and how it's different from "bird" as early as possible in the article. I can't really make that out from wikipedia (which redirects to birds). Carpetsmoker (talk) 17:38, 15 October 2015 (UTC)
- Neornithes is basically synonymous with "modern birds". So e.g. Archaeopteryx doesn't fall under it. 142.124.55.236 (talk) 18:26, 15 October 42015 AQD (UTC)
- There were two lineages of birds, one with teeth and one, the neornithes, without. Only the neornithes survived to the present. Toothed birds are like hen's teeth. Flannan Isle (talk) 18:31, 15 October 2015 (UTC)
- Typifying them as 'two lineages' is rather simplistic. "Toothed birds" would be a polyphyletic grouping. But +1 for that last sentence. 142.124.55.236 (talk) 18:37, 15 October 42015 AQD (UTC)
- Simplistic, true, but I didn't want to complicate things too much as there are dense thickets of jargon in these parts. Flannan Isle (talk) 21:30, 16 October 2015 (UTC)
- There is a definition of Neornithes on EvoWiki, which might be good for a start and/or separate page. [4] Bongolian (talk) 18:50, 15 October 2015 (UTC)
- A quick sentence or two should be enough for a definition, shouldn't it? Flannan Isle (talk) 21:30, 16 October 2015 (UTC)

This page mentions Alan Feduccia 35 times[edit]
He's very much a fringe figure and denies that birds are dinosaurs. The whole of this page should probably go TBH Markfiend (talk) 09:57, 11 October 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks for the heads-up, @Markfiend. This page originated on a different, now-defunct Wiki, EvoWiki. I was mostly responsible for porting that page (making compatible with RationalWiki) but I was unaware that Feduccia was a fringe figure, which I now see is confirmed by his Wikipedia page: Alan Feduccia. @FuzzyCatPotato, Summa Atheologica, and Annanoon had opinions on merging this page with the bird evolution page. What say you now? Bongolian (talk) 16:44, 11 October 2019 (UTC)
