Talk:Not all X

I disagree with this redirect. One does not have to imply that "true men" aren't misogynists to randomly point out that not every man is a misogynist- although, both are similar in that they completely miss the point, do little but derail discussion, and are a way of assuring that one does not personally accept responsibility for someone else's actions (even though nobody was putting the blame on them in the first place). Oh, an I'm kinda drunk ATM, so I don't know what I'm on about. Just FYI. MĖSSIÅH ØF DØØM A sea on earth is a sea of tearsDolan.png 10:38, 15 June 2014 (UTC)
In my opinion, it's the same fallacy, just a different variation of it. I think the "Not all X" would be better off incorporated into the No True Scotsman fallacy article than it would be as a stand-alone article. Reckless Noise Symphony (talk) 10:43, 15 June 2014 (UTC)
Ah, but you see, the problem with No True Scotsman is that it is factually inaccurate. However, with Not All X, while it's obviously true (unless we're talking, like, "all metalheads like metal"), but just fucking irrelevant, because nobody is actually saying All X, if you understand what I mean. (EC) I think somebody is already sandboxing a "not all men" article; can't remember who. "Not all women are like that" is mentioned in the manosphere glossary. What other groups is "not all X" supposed to cover? I don't think it's really the same as No True Scotsman: NTS is othering certain members of a group because they contradict the group's self-image, while "not all men/women" is acknowledging that some members of the group may have certain characteristics but these don't represent the group as a whole. +1 for most of this- however, I've seen Not All X used by white people, heterosexuals, libertarians, neo-Nazis… it's fairly common, actually. THE GREAT RIGHTEØUS DESTRØYER Cacophonous aura of illness and woeDolan.png 11:12, 15 June 2014 (UTC)
You people are missing the point. "Not all men" is not "no true scotsman", even though they sound similar. "Not all men" is bullshit because it's irrelevant and misses the point. Nobody was accusing all men in the first place with the idea of rape culture or whatever, it's just something a bunch of paranoid or hasty people like to use because they don't understand what rape culture is or something. That's what I said. Sorry if I'm not being clear or coherent right now. I'm tired and drunk, so yeah. GØØBY PLS Play the best song in the world, or I'll eat your soulDolan.png 11:36, 15 June 2014 (UTC)
