An explanation for Out of Place artefacts[edit]

Some (persons of ancient group of choice) are sitting around. There is no TV for there to be 'nothing to watch on'; the beer is still brewing and the local singer has gone off in a huff, having being told that they are worse than Cacafonix.

'I'm bored,' says one (ancient person).
'We all are, till the beer's ready and them from the next village return our football.'
'We could do something with "this junk".'
'I know - let's design something that will confuse our descendants.'
'I still have the Ikea instructions for that thing which had several left-over parts whichever way it was constructed.'

Any better ideas? 171.33.197.73 (talk) 16:40, 11 December 2013 (UTC)

Could use some tighter grammar and a bit more to it, but it could work. (Added spaces to your message) Zero (talk) 17:00, 11 December 2013 (UTC)

Boredom/what to do with 'assorted junk'/'annoying the neighbours' etc require fewer extra details than aliens and 'forgotten advanced technology' so fit Occam's Razor better. (Annoying the ancient aliens or attempting to get them to visit your overpriced theme park to amuse the locals is also plausible.) 171.33.197.73 (talk) 17:29, 11 December 2013 (UTC)

More like:
"If you squint at it, that rock formation over there looks like a modern office building."
"The lines are too straight. It couldn't possibly be natural."
"Yes. Aliens"

That is 'creative misinterpretation and optical illusions' rather than OOPs.

There are two categories of OOPs/'those who look at OOPs:

Those which are misunderstood and misperceived items, often combined with 'deliberate bad science' and the opinion that 'those in the past could not be as capable of devising technically developed items as we are. Often associated with woo-merchants.

Those where 'the explanations have been lost' (the Antikythera mechanism etc). Those in the past were every bit as ingenious as we were - and they did not have TV, 'Project Management and Analyses Committees', tenders complete with expected completion dates and cost analyses and similar. The attitude is 'Scots Not Proven'/'How can we make one of these now (even if it is far more complex as the skills have been lost). 82.44.143.26 (talk) 18:22, 24 March 2014 (UTC)

A failed out of place artifact[edit]

Can be found here [1] - 'the object' was identified. 82.44.143.26 (talk) 15:43, 21 March 2014 (UTC)

What about those American drugs found in Egyptian mummies?[edit]

Pretty out-of-place too. 141.134.75.236 (talk) 00:45, 21 May 2015 (UTC)
