Talk:Personal savior

[edit] Dump, destroy, or really revise
I think the authors of this page are slightly confused about what a personal savior is, and how it relates to general salvation and how it's used. Little to anything in this article is actually correct, though it is correct for some denominations. We need to either be specific about what we are talking about, or get ride of the non-term, "emotive term" of "personal savior" that has no real actual definition. Ie., we've turn it into a "thing" here, when it's just a way of relating to salvation in general. Do you need to know and accept Jesus, or did his death save all.

- I'd go for revise. ТyNo 21:57, 7 March 2012 (UTC)
- I"m trying, but i don't really know how. No one in theology, even Jack Chick means what this article suggests they mean by "personal savior". it's like saying a "Coffee Cup/mug" which is a common term, is actually definitive of something used *for coffee* vs. just hot liquids. Really it should just be part of our "salvation" article, if we have one....

- If we have one, then yes. It makes tons of sense within the concept of salvation. You can discuss how it's used as an emotive; how it makes people feel special that this god is *their* savior, etc. But there really is a reason you won't find a wiki entry on this, as such. It's just a "non starter".

- The whole personal relationship with Jesus concept is a very Protestant idea, like the article says it doesn't really exist in Catholicism. The newer cults (Mormonism, Jehovah's Witnesses) also propone the idea. I seem to recall that Dawkins talks about it in The God Delusion (or maybe it was Harris in Letter to a Christian Nation...now I can't remember) as a sort of "WTF? RLY?" concept. -- Seth Peck (talk) 22:16, 7 March 2012 (UTC)
