Editorial notes

Very very confusing. From the name, I would infer placebopathy is the use of placebos as medicine, kind of like homoeopathy or faith healing but you recognize what you're giving doesn't do shit, meaning it's deliberately dishonest, i.e. malicious. As the article states, it's not a very common medical practice: I've never heard of placebopathy outside of this article and I'm pretty sure it would be banned as a form of malpractice. Is there some group who claims a conspiracy of Big Pharma with double-blind studies and placebos, or what? Don't see the real significance of this mess of an article. Needs complete rewrite, or preferably deletion. The Heidelberg Kid (talk) 16:43, 11 February 2012 (UTC)

Maybe move to funspace and rewrite there on how to do this (jokingly, of course). Key word "maybe". The Heidelberg Kid (talk) 16:54, 11 February 2012 (UTC)

I thought I'd invented this term but there are a few prior instances of its use. :( Jollyfish.gifGenghisunbelieving 15:01, 22 July 2008 (EDT)

I say, junk, kill, unless it has some rich precedents - those prior incidents you speak of? ħumanUser talk:Human 01:34, 3 September 2008 (EDT)

Bummer. Our local philanthropists monopolists have done a pretty good job of running fiberoptics into our wallets. Nice, but I'd like to see competition. My condolences for your plight. ħumanUser talk:Human 02:27, 3 September 2008 (EDT)

delete[edit]

OK, we are now the #1 of twelve google hits for this word. I move for speedy deletion of the silly. Unless someone wants to actually write what it "means" to the anti-allopaths? ħumanUser talk:Human 02:35, 3 September 2008 (EDT)

We are not ones to avoid the creation of a neologism, we do it all the time. Google hits is not exactly an important measure for inclusivity on our site. I think deletion would be hasty. It is an interesting concept. tmtoulouse annoy 02:38, 3 September 2008 (EDT)
But we need to address it competently. If at all. At least make the friggin' article funny! ħumanUser talk:Human 03:02, 3 September 2008 (EDT)
It reminds me of the "nullopathy" article some troll added to the CAMwiki. Maybe we should port it over, it was more amusing... ħumanUser talk:Human 03:03, 3 September 2008 (EDT)

This doesn't really make sense in serious terms. Is it about doctors prescribing alternative remedies? It's a bit vague. If it's satire or parody, I didn't crack a smile once. It strikes me as a word that someone thought of and wrote up here because it sounded cool. Improve or delete - right now it's neither use nor ornament. Totnesmartin 04:37, 17 September 2008 (EDT)

Sadly, camwiki deleted nullopathy. It was funnier and a better name. Anyway, I see no reason to keep this article. ħumanUser talk:Human 15:08, 17 September 2008 (EDT)

At the risk of exposing the fact, I don't believe I have sysop powers to delete this page, but I think it is fairly clear that this should be deleted. Smyth 13:13, 9 October 2008 (EDT)

I have given you the powerz to wield the knife. But with power comes responsibility, do you really want to delete this page? :-) --Bobbing up 13:22, 9 October 2008 (EDT)
See, now that I have the power, I can't decide. I'll leave the question linger for a while longer in case anyone feels strongly one way or the other. Smyth 13:28, 9 October 2008 (EDT)
Yes, that's how I feel. Something good could come of it .... but ...--Bobbing up 13:33, 9 October 2008 (EDT)

Either delete or merge into placebo effect. WēāŝēīōīďWeaselly.jpgMethinks it is a Weasel 19:59, 22 January 2009 (EST)

I think we should keep this. It has its own little home in the pantheon of medical snarticles, and I even added a "null" reference for those who feel better if a topic is footnoted. ħumanUser talk:Human 15:58, 23 January 2009 (EST)
I'm expanding the article a little and mentioning the fact that it's a made up term. ArmondikoVmoral 16:08, 23 January 2009 (EST)

Placebopathy is real[edit]

How dare you even contemplate the deletion of the word Placebopathy. I am the world's only Placebopath and take exception to your attempts to limit my ability to earn a living. Placebopathy is a real, harmless but effective treatment for a wide range of illnesses. It has no side effects and is compatible with all other therapies.

So true. ħumanUser talk:Human 02:35, 17 September 2008 (EDT)

Re-nominating for deletion.[edit]

After a couple years of silence, I'd like to re-nominate this for deletion. There are only 518 hits on Google for the word "placebopathy", and this article is on the very top. I've never heard this word anywhere besides this article. Is there any evidence that this is ever actually practiced? If so, why isn't it in this article? If not, why do we even have this article.

Keep and rewrite/expand[edit]

By choosing this option, I recognize that I am stating I am going to find a source of somebody who practices placebopathy and add it to the article.

  2. The Google hits are mostly puns on homeopathy. There's enough woo in the world -- we don't need to invent our own. Nebuchadnezzar (talk) 16:55, 11 February 2012 (UTC)
